Reminded me of this. It's up to 260k signatures, soon we get an official white house response. I'm guessing it'll be "no" but it's still funny.

Curling is rad. I met two dudes that were into curling, and there's a club locally.

If you have never tried curling you should. One of the most fun games I have ever tried.

If you don't think its a sport get on the end of a broom as a first or second. That is work man!

Canadian fans expect nothing less than the gold medal for hockey, every time. They're the most spoiled fans in sports.

According to someone on NPR the other day, women were meant to be good at curling......

Do it the way I used to.....with a corn broom, not one of the wussy push brooms.

Not really. Because more often than not, they get the gold. Which leads to all sorts of hand-wringing when that doesn't happen.

Spoiled in a good way, because we're almost always in contention.

Unless people have lived here, they can't really appreciate what hockey means to most Canadians. It's more than a game. It's what we are, it's what we do. It's a matter of national pride, and something most of us are passionate about. I don't know if that sport exists in the US.

My wife was at the dentist yesterday. The women's game was on in the waiting room, as well as every other room in the office. The dentists, assistants and patients were all watching it. The IT guys at work today set up the monitors in the cafeteria to play the game, and everybody in the office either streamed it, or watched it on the TV in the lobby. If you were in school, guess what you did this afternoon?

Our IT guys set up a projector in a lounge at work so people could watch it, with the full permission of the President.

The day the Women's team played we maxed out our internet connection - so many people were streaming the game!

It's a novelty because people only care about women's hockey once every four years.

I bet the fan is happy about it though.

Friends of mine are teachers - yesterday they all watched the ladies game with the kids. Today, my company put on pizza and set up a projector in the office, and everyone took time out to watch the men's semi-final. Canadians are mad for it.

Some of us are also leaf fans, so it evens out. Yesterday I was picking my daughter up from school and they had the women's game playing over the loudspeaker so when I got out of the car I could still hear the game. Today while at work (firefighter) we had a large natural gas leak in a high rise apartment that we were dealing with during the hockey game. Every five min, someone would update over our fire radios what the score was. We also had trouble getting people to evacuate since the game was on...

A note from my mom today. Note: Ian is 5.

mom said: I just came back from my reading at the school. About five classes, including Ian's are watching the hockey game. The library is wall to wall kids. This is serious stuff! The advice to the men's team is to play like girls. Let's hope they do. The gold count is mounting up.

Hockey demands attention. It is so fast, and when teams are evenly matched the intensity is greater than any other sport I can think of. I love football, I love baseball, and I tolerate soccer. I can do other things while watching any of those three sports because the tension mounts in a linear manner, for the most part, with rare exceptions. Even a turnover in football takes time to unfold. That means I can put down my book and look at the game.

But not with hockey. You have to watch. And if you don't watch the near misses and excitement of the play by play will have you doing so anyway.

I don't pretend that only Canadians understand hockey, or that somehow we are more rabid in our love of the game than anyone else. But it is a big deal for us, and a keystone that has impact on our national understanding of ourselves, even if we don't play ourselves.

I would love to see a male-female super league. 4 skaters on each team, with a 50 50 playing time lit between the men and women. I bet that would be intense. Many of my daughter's hockey playing friends - all preteens - itch to take on the boys.
