Los Angeles moves to the mid-west

Just saw some interesting college sports news, USC and UCLA will join the Big 10 in 2024. 
 

How many decades did we see them represent the Pac10 at the Rose Bowl against the Big 10 champs?  Now they join them. Oh how college sports have changed. 

The world I growed up in is gone.

It seems pretty obvious that we are heading towards the B1G and the SEC being the only major conferences left. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

So, with this addition of 2 how many are in “The 10“?  Is it like 15 now? 

Rutgers, NJ to LA, coast to coast. Some schools travel budgets just really increased! 

USC fans finally get to watch them play Rutgers at 9am, gotta be psyched about that.

It's cool to add some talent to the Big "10" (which is currently at 14 and split into two sub conferences and now looking at 16)but it seems so weird geographically. It means the conference literally stretches from coast to coast. I dont think I like it.

College football is some ridicilous bullE36 M3.

It's all about the TV money.  They anticipate the government tap is about to get turned off.

F--k those guys. I'm a UCLA alum, grew up in Berkeley and maintain a business there. Regional identification means something. Pac 8 and Pac 10 made sense, but when they broke it up into north/South sub-divisions things  started going wrong. They started scheduling games at odd hours and even moving time slots with inadeq1uate notice. Now those money-grubbing pricks have deserted the West altogether. Can you tell it pisses me off? No more season tickets or donations. The NCAA in general and UCLA can jump in the ocean for all I care.

As someone who attempted to play NCAA sports, screw them. It's a ll a scam that uses up kids so the rich can get richer. At least pro athletes get paid for their CTE.

I stood a decent chance of a wrestling scholarship when title 9 hit and half the college wrestling programs shut down to make way for women's sports. No ill feelings. They deserved it. But the one that's always galled me is when some young guy from the ghetto looses eligibility because the wrong  person bought him lunch or some such. Then there was all the years of keeping players from making bank based on their popularity. Grrrrrr.

I want Maryland to go back to the ACC. That's where my concern for college sports begins and ends.

hard for the other conferences to compete for players in the NIL era

SEC gets ALL the TV money, gotta go where the competition is 

USC and UCLA are sure going to get a lot of frequent flyer miles. 
Football is bad enough but there are many more baseball games.

Plus the players still have classes to go to......

Greed is going to bite them in the butt in the long run......

Actually, for the B1G the real money is in the research alliance. It's 10-20x that of athletics budget and revenues for members. So for this, Cal and Stanford make a ton of sense.

After way too many decades, those days are over with NIL money. Given how much money these athletes bring to the schools, took way to long.

There have been cases where schools are in one conference for Football and another for "other sports"  I have this feeling that will be the case here.  

The amount of money spent on college sports is insane, from coaches getting paid 100 million to athletes who are students in name only. The claim that the sports dept brings in money for the whole school is nonsense, it all goes to even more sports. 

I would like to see it all end and get colleges back tot he job they should be doing, education of all the students.

I look forward to watching Pac 10 offenses routinely start out seasons strong and then go to places like Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, Penn State in November to get the snot knocked out of them by teams that understand you aren't as likely to pass the ball well in cold/windy weather.
