Lotsa newbies lately

I think I found GRM around the same time I also discovered the late, great Speedvision around '99. Been bouncing between subscriber/newstand since.

Cars? I grew up sitting sideways behind the passenger seat of a series of MGBs (screw DOT), learned to drive in an X1/9 and drove a '74 Celica GT thru high school. My favorite I've owned so far was a '83 RX7 and when I return from my current DoD deployment from Iraq my next will be a MINI.

A big influence was my father who was a licenced FF driver when he was stationed in Germany and used to work at Oscar Koveleski's Auto World in Scranton.

Got involved with the Atlanta region in 99 in A-X. Found the magazine at about the same time. Only recently have I been using the forum. It's use is increasing for me at an large rate i think, especially compared to other sites--including my club sites here in Vermont. SCC.org and Dubsnorth.org.

I've actually had conversations with the editorial staff on the phone and via e-mail. Can't imagine that with any other mag (well except maybe Classic Motorsports!).

Hoping to get my act together and make one of the challenges in the next year or two.

Even had my Rocco dyno tuned by Ed Senf back in 2001 in Marietta. Found me 18 hp at 6000 rpm. Anybody smarter on a dyno than him?

I used to love that place. I remember the giant slot car track setup as possibly the coolest thing I had ever seen. I used to beg my father to take me there.

I went to a local autx and some stranger stopped to talk about my car. No doubt my newbieness stuck out like a sore thumb. He came by a while later and tossed me his wore out copy of GRM. I still have it and a 10yr subscription.

I'm relatively new to the forums (bout a year I think), but have been reading GRM since the Challenge article in 2002.

I think I know you. Did you used to be a wrench at a VW dealer and did some VAGCOM work on Roby's car at a team solo meeting?

Well I guess that I am under this category too. I think I heard about the $200x challenge way back in high school (maybe 2002?) reading a Hot Rod magazine. Back then, I was broke and very very grassroots. Our yard had 11 cars in it i think, and you can see the 6 immobile ones on google maps

I got busy with engineering school and shelved my project dd (aka it caught on fire) and I stopped working on cars and autocrossing until '08 when I bought my S2000. Now I have my Subaru as well and a motorcycle project and I also have less stress because of it. I like these boards because everyone here is down to earth and straightforward; the S2000 forums are full of rich boys and wannabes (with a few exceptions) and it's hard to find any real info there.

I'm in Atlanta region autocrossing B-stock this year and might actually have a chance to get up there in points now that all the S2000 guys jumped ship and went to STR

Just want to chime in to say hey to all the other Polaks from PA. My family is from Wilkes-Barre, and I was born there. I now live in a Polish neighborhood in Brooklyn, but that's more of a coincidence than anything.

Got a chuckle when I came across the PRDA site. I'll probably register and get some stickers if they're still around.

Yes, Dave it's me. How's the Atlanta region doing? Sorry to hear about the loss of Rick Shafer. He first welcomed me to solo2 and in the same day took me on course in the TA. Awesome car--Great guy. I still keep in touch with Pedro. Remember him? I no longer work on VW's professionally (only in my garage). I'm getting licensed to teach high school Driver Education. I've noticed you posting a lot over the years. I just started posting more recently cause, let's face it, this IS the best effen forum on the web!!!! I'm crew chiefing a Formula Vee this year. Fvee We hope to make nationals! this is the site for the car and the owner.
