I won't stand in a line for a perfect steak.

For a sandwich? Not a chance.

Ive had the last few days off work. Yesterday the wife decided she wanted to try and go to a JJs for this deal. The one she picked was right next to the 2nd largest university in the country. We arrived at 10:30 after some other errands and the line was at 150 from what we could see (zig zagged and wrapped around a couple of buildings). We ate Jersey Mikes and watched people wait from across the plaza and left before the 150th person we counted got their sandwich. I tried remind her that we live in an age where people will camp for months to save $200 on a TV on Thanksgiving night.

Haven't been to a JJ's yet but there is a new one in the area.

How does the food rate?

My daughter loves this place - much better than Subway.

The first time I went I ordered the gargantuan sandwich and complained how small it was. Later I didn't feel good eating the 3# (or whatever) of lunch meat I ate.

With Jersey Mikes, JJs, Subway, Firehouse, and Publix (if you're in the south). Subway would be rock bottom, Jersey Mikes way above them but second to last, Firehouse, JJs, Public. I love them but they are pricey for what you get.

Second only to potbellys among the chains, imho. Decent sandwich, not up to the hype I heard in high school ten years ago over it though, but it has really grown on me. Especially when I was in college. They'd sell day old bread for $0.50.

meh. several steps above subway, a couple below firehouse and dibellas, hundreds below finding a real deli to make you a sandwich.

i gave up on them. 2nd to last time they took over 30 minutes to deliver, and my turkey club had literally one piece of turkey. they sent me a gift card because i put a picture of my sandwich on twitter, and used the gift card to get one at another place. they pretty much made me a lettuce sandwich with a little bacon and turkey and forgot the tomatoes. i'm done.

This. deAngelo's is a close third to round out my top three. My go to is a gargantuan, and I usually buy an extra loaf or two of day old.

mtn, if you guys ever venture North, come to Johnsburg (the same town Tom Waits sung about) and go to EPIC Deli. It will make Jimmy Johns seem like dog food.

I go north, but not west.

As it is, I have a ton of real delis that I'll go to without the chains.

Mrs dx is a fan of JJ's. I'll eat if she gets it on the way home from work. I'm a subway guy myself. Quiznos is good too but they are few and far between here in southeastern PA.

I forgot my lunch on Friday, and my co-worker, who missed out on the JJ deal, was wanting a sub, so I indulged him and we went out for subs again.

Except, not to Jimmy Johns.

There's an Italian store lingering on what appears to be an abandoned block on the north-west side of downtown Baltimore that I turned him on to a few months back. Trinacria's. So we grabbed another co-worker and headed there for subs. 80 cents more than normal price for a Jimmy Johns "Vito", about twice the bread, three times the meat, provolone that actually has a bite to it, and some sort of homemade olive tappenade spread on it. Dear Lord it was good.

I also grabbed 3L of olive oil, a loaf of prosciutto bread, and a cannoli to bring home to Mrs. VCH for that evening.
