I need a plastic threaded plug like this.

But in M16x2 thread. Anyone have any clue where to find this? I have had no luck with McMaster Carr or Grainger.

Has to be plastic?

I would prefer plastic. I have short steel cap screws I could use if needed.

Biggest I'm finding is M12x1.75

What about cutting threads on a slightly oversized plastic rod?

M16X1.5 if you're creative and can use metal

Can you share the application?

Assuming you mean a plug in the common sense of a tapered threaded part, you're down to what sizes actually exist.

In the US, a 3/8" NPT plug is 16mm at normal engagement depth, but the thread pitch, 18 tpi, is a bit finer than 2mm.

Are you looking to plug an existing 16x2 hole? Is the hole tapered so that a pipe plug will work? If not, the way forward is a 16x2 bolt w/ a sealing washer.

(Lightbulb!)

Does this have anything to do with boogered-up oil pan drain bolt threads?

In reply to motomoron:

No I have a box that is tapped for an M16x2 gland but I don't need to use the gland. I can use a bolt but I will have to some extra modification because I don't have one short enough.

Whack saw it shorter and file the end to a taper down to the minor diameter.

If you have a boatload to do, use a lathe.

Check www.caplugs.com

I bought quite a few different plastic caps from them. If you only need a few, ask for a sample.

Good call.

I couldn't find any M16-2, only M16-1.5, so you can use these:

Tape on the outside surface of the box, fill hole w/ JB weld. I'm not kidding.
