Not the defunct Pontiac, the winter solstice.
We've completed the long, excruciating march into darkness once again and starting today every day gets a little longer, a little brighter.

Provided the appropriate sacrifices have been completed on the central altar of the henge while facing the rising sun. If not, we're boned.

Whoa - 43! Impressive sir, just hit 14 myself.
We should have a festival of lights in the next few days to celebrate making it past the darkest day.

Does new years eve fireworks count?
I had a colonoscopy yesterday…I knew the day would be E36 M3’y so why not pick the shortest one?
I also scheduled my next cardio exam for February 14th …no chance of forgetting that appointment.
For personal schedule reasons it doesn't affect me as much this year, but ever since I found out, I've been amused by the oddness around how the changing daylight hours plays out.
It's still staying dark later in the morning for the next week or so, but it'll be staying light later in the afternoon faster than it's staying dark later, for net longer daylight, offset later in the day (by a couple of minutes).
I've historically been way more focused on the earliest sunset than the shortest day, because I want to ride my bike after work. That day is earlier in December.
But I still enjoy celebrating the Solstice with hearty food and a warming drink!
Just a handful of sunlight hours here this time of year but the skiing is looking good for the little bit of light we do get. We went to a Solstice/end of Hanukah party last night. There was lots of matzah and wine. Really I'll go to any old party.

Thought this too.

The darkest day of the year? Yikes!
Some comedian said that he got married on the winter solstice because it had the longest night.
