As some of you might have noticed, I had a very minor accident in my Disco last week. Idiot in a Honda barely tapped the back of it. Hit it just hard enough to destroy the plastic cover, the trim filler piece between bumper and body, and the rear fog/reversing light. The muffler is hanging down slightly too.

Just got back from my insurance agent (same as his agent) and I am getting an $1100 cheque to do the repairs.. I already bought the parts off of ebay, came to $400

I wonder what his repair came to.. his civic (newish) will need a headlight and hood at minimum

A guy in a Miata rearended (that is, drove under) my dad's old Disco. Everything ahead of the windshield was destroyed, the bumper was wrapped around the engine.

The disco's rear bumper was bent upward slightly.

That is excellent. That was a warning.

Now, fix it and sell it before it bites you again.

Because it has. Repeatedly.

Yep the Discovery will never stop giving trouble and costing you more money. I've seen all the stages of Discovery ownership and it never gets better. My dad got out of it after the first engine meltdown but others aren't so lucky.

A guy I compete with in offroad rally drives one and it's like an F1 car - either getting driven in competition or wrenched on at all times, and I think it requires more wrenching at mid-event stops than any other vehicle. When he bought an L200 for the rally while the Discovery was still being wrenched on I thought he was ready to quit, but then he bought an LR3 as well...

When you get ready to sell the Disco, let me know. My wife wants onein the worst way. First I'll make her read all your threads about the trouble that it's had.

....that probably won't dissuade her.

The greatest of deals. Someone hit the fender on my Jetta, insurance paid me $1100. I went to the junkyard and bought one in silver arrow from a junkyard for $50. Granted, I had to drive a solid 45 minutes to pick up the fender because 2000 was the only year/body style where they had that color. Still worth my time!

I thought about the offroad bumper. I almost pulled the trigger on a terrafirma one. But I would need to do the front bumper too in order to make the disco look "balanced" and the only front bumper I liked was $1500.

I paid off an International flatbed early doing Land Rover Roadside Assistance in the late '90s.

My dangler wrangler got bumped. Insurance paid me 1,481 bucks. Local shop is going to pull the dent and paint the are for $400 bucks. I tried the suction cup thing but no luck.
