I've always heard that these shows are somewhat staged, in that the buyer has already picked their house and the alternatives are just for the show. Was that the case with you?

Yes, in order to film the show you have to already have closed on the house. They don't want to film a show and then find out the guest didn't buy anything. We closed about 3 weeks before filming.
We didn't hit the lottery, had an inheritance when my MIL passed away last year.
