I've been thinking if this guy was driving a Taurus, this would never have happened. Someone would have smashed all the glass in a heartbeat.

To the folks making the jokes - you do realize this thread is about a person who died right? Someone that woke up that morning not expecting to die. Someone who had loved ones. Someone who apparently suffered a pretty miserable death.

I like cutting up as much as the next guy, but this just seems like the wrong place. $.02

If it were me I would have got on my high horse at....like page three or four.

You should consider getting in early on the whole balcony collapsing thread....it's still on page one.

I just spend 5 minutes outside a C6 today at work trying to figure out how to open it up with a dead battery. I finally reverted to YouTube to get into it, but man is it a stupid system. Just give me a keyhole by the door...

Sorry didn't read all 14 pages of comments.

After reading 13.5 pages of various comments, I finally decided to educate myself on corvette doors. Probably killed 45 min watching youtube videos on door issues.

The one thing I noticed was corvette owners are proud of their cars. All the cars were immaculate and it appeared that the owners were well aware of every little insignificant detail.

It's sad the gentleman perished inside the locked car, but it's also frustrating that he never was in any real danger. Perhaps it was the heat and his advanced age. We will never know.

Anyway, my point is it took 13.5 pages to get me to actually investigate the incredibly stupid push button door scheme used on the Vette and possibly other cars. I was not aware that manufactures were using electric latches. Aside from certain BMW's it appears that a manual override should be found within arms reach.

This tragedy offers an opportunity for the rest of us to learn from. It took 13.5 pages before I decided to look into the mechanics of the situation. Personally, I'm glad this thread stayed alive as long as it has.

Man it's like telling a dead crack whore, that being a crack whore was a bad career choice. She's already dead fool.

I can only hope my absurd death brings this much joy to a bunch of dorks. Especially if I've gotten to the point in my life that I own a Corvette.

I really don't understand why people are so upset that this thread has lived so long. The was some bickering back and forth and some inappropriate jokes given the subject matter. But, it just seems weird to me that some of you feel that a thread shouldn't go past certain page count. I have no idea why that bothers you.

Apparently we can discuss race, religion or politics but someone having a comedic yet tragic death is somehow off limits.

My w116 manual door handle broke once, while I was in the car. It was like 100deg outside. If I panicked and couldn't find the other three doors or break the glass and I died. Is Mercedes at fault for only designing manual door handles that failed?

In 2009 I dropped my crx hf off to get an annual state inspection (Virginia). The inspector apparently got stuck in the car for a few minutes because he was too fat to get his hands between his body and the door.

I am fairly certain at least a few more people have now given thought to being trapped in their own car under similar circumstances. Lives are being saved by keeping this story going.

+1. If I have to go out in a dumb way, it better involve explosions, women and booze.
