While away on a business trip, my employer casually tells me that my position has been eliminated. No warning, no preamble, just a big kick in the gonads. Wow, thanks for that. I've been gainfully employed since I was 15 and have never been let go in any capacity...until now.
The good news is that it was a decent company and they softened the blow as much as they could and they are helping to get me back on my feet again. The search for the next step in my career begins. If you know of a position for a senior B2B marketing director, send it my way!

That sounds a E36 M3 lot like me in 1985 when I got laid off by a large also based in PA. I had been doing my bosses work picking his cotton plots by hand. Get home and get "the call". I got a decent severance package that ended one week before Christmas.

We had a problem guy and decided to hold off one December. He got the ax in February.
We couldn't fire him right before the holidays with three little kids so we gave him chance #258.
that's very cold getting the call while on a trip for the business that is laying you off.
Was it because of the Rondo?
Waiting until years end would have given me my bonus and 401k contribution, so that stings.
I am willing to relocate if I am unable to find something close. With 2 kids and all my family here, it's my last option.

That is cold. They could've at least waited until your business trip was finished. Good luck on your job search.
On a business trip? Wow, not only is that cold that could have played out horribly for them, not a smart move. Not to mention right before the holidays. Ouch.
Good luck with the search, I have been fired only once myself. I still get a knee jerk and second guess myself.
