A few months ago there was a thread of  peoples experiences with various foam mattresses that are on the market right now. I have dug around and found a couple of threads from several years ago. But I have not found the most recent one.

Would one of you search wizards see if you can find it? I am looking to replace a bed soon and would like to reread the information shared.

Thanks

Zinus Green Tea.  Mine is 5 years old and it is the absolute best money I've ever spent on a mattress.... and it was only $168.  I think they're closer to $250 now.

Loved it so much I bought one for the RV and a 6" topper for a tent mattress.  Getting another one for the guest room soon.

I'll look for the other thread

You can DIY a Latex mattress for around $1000.

Benefits include the ability to customize the feel and swap out components as they age.

Honestly there is only one type to consider - Latex.  At my age I've tried them all and I used to sell mattresses.

* Anti-microbial and dust-mite resistant to reduce allergies (no bed bugs) * Optimal orthopedic support (naturally conforming to your specific body contours) * Luxurious yet supportive feel and resiliency * Unmatched breath-ability * Resists moisture and heat for cooler sleep * Fantastic pressure relief that will help bring oxygen and nutrients to sore muscles * Elimination of motion transfers, so you rest easy even if your partner is restless

Superior Thermal Qualities Latex's thermal properties are truly outstanding. Its superior cell structure gives it maximum breath-ability, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Stay cool, and stay warm on a latex mattress.

Simply put, latex is a rubber particle that is suspended in water.

Latex rubber mattresses conform promptly to each contour of your body for unmatched pressure relief and orthopedic support. They feel alive instead of dead like a memory foam and yet they don't transfer the motions.  They are known to provide at least 1/3 more pressure relief and contouring support than comparable memory foam. Mattresses made with latex that are manufactured using the Talalay process are unsurpassed in durability and bounce back.  They also have a life that is 2X to 3X the life of any other mattress.

I measured my underbody temp on a Memory foam and a Latex.  The memory foam was 85 degrees hotter.  Latex is temperature neutral which means it doesn't keep building up heat nor does it need heat to work.  It conforms to your body (not melts away like memory foam.  As it gets hotter memory foam retreats further and doesn't give nearly as much support) and doesn't leave you with a "cavity" to try to roll out of nor is it hard in cold temps.

Latex works best the less you have between you and the latex so don't  get an expensive pillow top.

What I've found is that the best bang for the buck is a 3" latex topper over your less expensive or maybe even older mattress.

This is what I just bought and have slept on for only 5 nights.

This isn't my first time to do this.  I bought a 2" to go on my king sized bed and it transformed it.  I decided to go 3" this time and it's better.

And then I splurged on a latex pillow.  No more pillow heating up and having to turn it nor does it pack down.  Actually latex will hold it's shape for decades.

I am mostly a side sleeper and it's the perfect height for that.  It's slighly too tall for back sleeping, but not something I won't get used to.  As a matter of fact I hardly notice the height in only 5 nights.

I found it to take a bit of getting used to with a foam mattress. I used to wake with muscle pain in the morning from my old mattress, but with the foam one, no issues. I wished I had gotten a firmer foam mattress, though. That's my only complaint in the five years or so I've had one.

The other issue, for some, is that the foam mattress doesn't dissipate heat. If you're always cold, like me, that's great. If you're always hot, not so great.
