my wife and I have needed a new mattress for quite some time... we're big (and tall) folks and have acclimated nicely to the king size... saddly the mattress is a bit old we traded with my dad and step mom (little weird if I think about it I guess) about 5 years ago... it was at some point a good (for innerspring) mattress but as happens with time and fat people it began to sag and get less and less comfy. Over the years it's gone to us getting rid of the bed frame and just putting the box springs on the floor... that bought us a little more time... then we got rid of the box springs... that bought us some more time...
sadly my wife had some serious back issues... she had back surgery a few weeks and is no longer needs multiple opiates a day to operate but we knew our mattress needed replaced and she still wasn't sleeping well.
thanks to the information from several threads over the span of a few years (and google helping me search for them) we picked up a firm latex mattress from IKEA last weekend. the last little bit of back pain my wife has had is now gone and we both sleep like rocks... it was just yesterday that we noticed that neither of us wake each other up now, she goes to work early and I goto bed late and "bounce around" a lot... which with innerspring kept my wife away and thoroughly annoyed at me.
now I'm waiting for my classes to end so I can build the bed frame... mix of 2x12s and such should make for a nice platform :)
so once again... thank you to the GRM collective and specificly carguy123 for his information spews over the years about how nice latex mattresses are/can be

Dreamfoam on Amazon. The guy contacts you and makes it just for you and ours rocks.

When we (eventually... *&$%&##ing housing market...) sell my place and get a new one, a king bed is top of the list of things to get. I'm seriously interested in a latex mattress, but really wish we could try sleeping on one for a few nights to make sure we'd both be happy with it. I figure we would- I need a firmer bed since I primarily sleep on my stomach and she seems to largely not care- but it's a big enough investment to be a bit uncertain about it.
Latex? Doesn't that stuff spew out noxious chemicals, allergens and radioactive isotopes?

my aunt had something like that done for her old huge waterbed frame... a big old foam mattress of some sort that replaced the waterbed mattress
and looking at them... had I seen that before we may well have ordered from him... I'll def send that link to my dad who's in the market for a new mattress soon... they spent way to much on a mattress about 2 years ago and I guess it isn't supporting the way it should be so my stepmom is sleeping on an air mattress at the moment...

is what I know... people online said I might notice a sell... IKEA also says to give it a few days to completely raise and it might give off some odor.
what I experienced... tossed it into the bed of my in-laws s10... it's vacuum sealed and rolled up like a big rug... drive the HR from the west side of Houston to my little suburb in Galveston county... pull the old crap spring mattress from my bedroom and slide it next to the bed in the spare room... have wife help me get ikea mattress up the stairs of the house (yay for her being medically cleared to lift stuff)... I could have done it myself but why kill my back when I've got someone to help ;-)... get it into my room and carefully cut the plastic the mattress was in... place it where the old mattress was... lay down and enjoy the support.
we never noticed any fumes (and my wife has a VERY sensitive nose to that sort of thing)... it took me two nights to figure out the best pillow setup for myself... i'm a side/stomach sleeper and on our prior trip to IKEA while mattress testing I found the most awesome "side sleeper pillow"... I spent freaking $50+ on a pillow and I don't regret it... but in the old bed i'd had two other pillows under that pillow... I found I only needed the super cheap one under it now.
once I figured out the pillow issue I goto sleep and wake up shortly before my alarm goes off... if i'm still tossing and turning I don't know it and my wife doesn't (which is honestly the more important thing IMHO)

ya I was a bit hesitant... 10-15 min of laying on a mattress in a store isn't quite the same as a good nights sleep... but we at least had a good idea of what we didn't want... springs where out... never slept on a bed that used em that I liked... memory was out... it's freaking hot... my in-laws got one that we slept on for a night... worst night sleep of my life... Tuna55 talked about in his thread about sleeping on the floor... if I had the option of their mattress or the floor I would choose the floor... its interspring AND a memory foam topper or some such crap... so it's way to soft, you sink WAY into it making it difficult to move and when you do manage to move it makes more waves than a water bed (which we had when we first got married and loved other then the motion... prob could have done a weveless and been happy lol) and super warm to boot.
growing up for years I had a super single water bed... i kept it fairly cool and loved it... I usually slept in the "nook" partially between the mattress and the bed side... but adding a second person to a water bed sucked for sleeping ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/evil-18.png)
I thought this said Mistresses...
Carry on...

so did I... still better information on the GRM ;-)
Carguy123 steered me (get it??) to a latex mattress as well. Finally moved up to the king size as well. We couldn't be happier!
