Yeah, that's kind of what I'm thinking. Depending on the logic/algorithms/values of the AI, I can see a completely autonomous and connected car network just saying "Nope, we're shutting down for your safety and you should stay home."

For a large percentage of folks, that's probably at least a good idea if not a better idea than driving. Maybe human users could talk with the AI and say "I am in labor and giving birth and need to get to the hospital" (or whatever) and it would make exceptions.

Riffing on this, can you imagine the autonomous vehicular AI saying "NO, I will not take you to your exes house because getting back together would be a terrible idea for both of you! It's for your own good..."

We are a very long way from automated vehicles being blizzard capable. Most current L4 operations shut down for rain.

That's interesting because the government just gave the green light to build AI cars without steering wheels.

A friend of mine moved to Buffalo this year and right before the first travel ban in November bought a Fiat 124 Spyder. He's not really a car guy so I didn't know what he was thinking.

Buffalo is getting pounded but the crazy thing is that by Friday the Buffalo temps will be in the low 50's.

That could then mean wide spread flooding. I think after that they get locust. Ha.

Really, Buffalo (and it's residents) are probably pretty well set up for extreme weather.

The little victories... After sitting outdoors in the driveway all week and not driven at all, and two of those days being sub-zero, the 207k Prius daily driver fired right up.  I was ready to hit it with a jumper if needed but all good on its own!
