That's a real shame. I have a soft spot for the Beasties.
Same age as I am, too. He's been battling cancer for 3 years or so, but it hasn't been confirmed that's what did him in.

I saw them in Tampa ~7 years ago and they ROCKED! Man, what a great show. Loved them ever since Licensed to Ill.
Cancer sucks.

Me too.
My guess is he will soon arrive in Brooklyn where he will "sleep."
Brings me back to Daytona Spring Break of '87 with MTV and this crazy new hot sound.
I once got to ride in an elevator with the Beastie Boys when I worked at a radio station in Detroit. It was kind of surreal.
RIP MCA

I will never forget the first time I heard Fight For Your Right on the radio. It was about 2 am and I had been sick in bed for months with mono. I thought I was hallucinating. "This can't be real..." I thought.
Damn. When I was in a E36 M3ty punk band in high school we would occasionally cover "No Sleep 'til Brooklyn", and I always did MCA's part. RIP.
I just heard. Damn this sucks. RIP MCA. Have fun with the other awesome talents we have lost.
I too will be streaming Beastie Boys on Pandora the rest of the day.
WHAT THE berkeley??? Man, that's horrible. RIP. I can't imagine how the other dudes are feeling. What a group of TRUE innovators, not scared to laugh at themselves or be laughed at. Not content to copy what everyone else is doing.
random trivia fact. The original Sabotage video had to be edited after it was shown on MTV to clean it up a bit. I remember actually seeing the uncut scene in the video originally shown (likely late at night) where the rear passenger is actually shoved out of the rear seat while driving... in the updated version of the video there's a video cut to another scene, and then it cuts back to the in-car camera as the back seat passenger is leaning back in to the car (having just shoved the other person out).

Had more rhymes than Jamaica's got mangoes.
I had Paul's Boutique in the deck when it was considered a 1 hit album.
