It's only dry because your family doesn't know how to cook.

Yeah, all the memes are about poorly cooked food, not turkey. The same person that overcooks the bird could also overcook that brisket.

But daaaaaamn, that looks good.

Three things I have no interest in:

  • Opera
  • Ballet
  • Poetry

I can appreciate that all three are very difficult to be good at doing.  But I just can't appreciate the end result.

I think the arts I'm less interested in are like genres of music I'm less interested in. 80% of it is terrible, 3% is great, and I'm so buried in all the good music I haven't found yet from genres I know I like that I haven't spent time trying stuff from the genres I haven't already gotten into... and frequently the bulk of the stuff you stumble into from new genres is part of the 80%...

Similarly, I've been to one opera that I loved (I don't even remember how; I think a housemate worked concessions or something); it was like discovering that punk rock existed in the 19th century, they just didn't have distortion. Then I thought maybe I liked opera and saw one from midcentury America, and it seemed to be an exercise in "all the pretty notes and chords are worn out; lets do the other thing" and included, I E36 M3 you not, the lyric "Hey Eddie, ya wanna go bowling tonight?"

Similarly, I haven't spent much time on poetry, but I do like the odd one of Dorothy Parker's, which may be an offshoot of having had a crush on Jennifer Jason Leigh...
