"Hey I want to tell you about this cool new business I just got started with!"
" I'd love to introduce you to my business advisor, are you free for lunch this week?"
If you try to ask exactly what kind of business they're advising, they get cagey real quick.

It's hard to understand how disconnected from the realm of true relationships you have to be to try to leverage others' social connection to you to turn them into a profit. I get that some ppl really must think they're helping you out, but the ones I've encountered were ppl I hadn't talked to in a while who were just trying to rope me in. "You know you have just pissed all over any semblance of a friendship we ever had, right?"
Like when we did our first book we told everybody about it because we were so excited. But everyone wanted to buy one to support us, so in order to not make sales from our friends, with the next book we only told ppl who were truly interested in the subject matter OR we were cagey/careful with our announcement so they would need to ask if they really wanted to know where to get it.
Not that I am ANYONE'S model of behavior.
NickD said:The whole thing is just weird because Plymouth Rock doesn't show up in any writings until 1715, a full 95 years after the pilgrims arrived And then it's been moved a bunch, broke once during a move, and supposedly during the final move, they swapped it out for another rock that hadn't had chunks chiseled our of it to take home as souvenirs. So Plymouth Rock never had any significance to the pilgrims, and it's very likely not even the same rock.

The phrase "Sleeping With" has always irked me, but never more than in this example.

I'm going to say "sleeping with" is a gross mischarachterization of what happened. To bad we don't have a term for what actually happened....
