Link - Mercedes-Benz S63 & Audi R8 crash

How the hell it could be so expensive to repair such damage for those cars? $200K for that damage? Audi looks barely scratched...Mercedes looks bad, but still not completely wrecked...

Me and the missus were driving up the George Washington Parkway in Northern Virginia last Sunday night in my '62 Sprite. Traffic is light and flowing about 60mph, it's a beautiful night and we're in the right lane enjoying how the little car coveys you along with a sweet mechanical thrum.

Then suddenly it gets very bright, then loud. We'd been closing on a slower SUV in the left lane, and when we were maybe 100' or less away, a BWM 650i convertible followed by a very hotted up new Mustang followed by a Nissan GTR all blasted up behind, darted around me, ran up to about a car length behind the SUV and swerved back into the right lane, never lifting and obviously driving with their eyes about a car length ahead of themselves.

Once past the SUV they all had it flat, and I'd guess they all saw 120 mph or better.

I said to my wife "It'd be great if that cop that hangs out up towards 495 lit them up and they all crashed hard enough to total their cars without hurting anyone" I added "Clowns like this are why I don't instruct anymore..."

I'm not sure the damage will quite reach $200k, but it'll unquestionably go over $100k. High end German cars are ridiculously expensive to repair. Every time we see one, we cringe because we know it's going to be a nightmare. There's very little or no repairing anything, everything is replacement. Parts are stupid expensive...and stupid hard to get. Most average shops can't work on them, so it has to go to a specialty shop, and labor rates are super high. What would be a $3000 hit on a Honda Accord becomes a $25,000 hit on a MB/Audi/BMW. I'd be surprised if that R8 is out of the shop before Christmas.

Also I think that is a R8 GT spyder so major cash for parts.

Sucks to have an R8 if such a hit could be so expensive for your wallet...
