Just happened to stumble across this video while cruising on the YouTube...kinda neat, but I think that the Miata could have gotten away a lot easier than they show... Miata vs. Charger Police Car - Hot Pursuit!

either the driver of the miata was not that good.. or the charger is that much better than I give it credit for.

The Benny Hill theme would have been perfect.

Having been a passenger in a police Charger, I say the video is legit. When the Charger police package goes resale, I might be interested. Not a fan of the interior, though, but who cares.
Is this the closed coarse video, where it ends with the miata being pitted or spun out? (sorry on dail up I'm loading it!) if so, yeah it seems like the miata isn't trying all that hard. Makes you wonder what a FMII equiped car would do in that situation. The charger can't hang in the corners, and the only time it gains ground is in the straights. Needs moar BOOST!
They did use the worst handling Miata in existence - those 2006-08 models are pretty hopeless stock. Let me run that with our 2006 and I'll bet it works out differently.
The Charger DNF'd on the first lane change
When you spin the car around and the cop passes by, aren't you supposed to take off? Seems like a great chance to open the gap quite a bit.
I saw a documentary on Mexican police/paramilitary training with Charger pursuit cars and their strategy was to use its straight line speed - they knew the cornering wasn't that great.
And it really looks like those Doughboy Miatas can't corner worth a damn, you'd expect better for something with such big wheels.

No kidding! He had the perfect opportunity to lose him and he just sat there!
In reply to Keith:
I saw that! It was over as soon as the Charger ran into the back of the car the Miata drove around.
If the driver hadn't been so concerned with drifting every corner to look cool for the camera I agree it should have fared better.
Seem to be giving up quite a bit under braking as well which seems odd.

Well yeah, but a PIT maneuver doesn't disable a car. He could have rode it out and been gone!
Also interesting how there was dirt around a lot of the corners, so that when the Miata applied power earlier than the Challenger, it would oversteer. Looked like every corner was extra dirty.
If that Charger was unit "Five Hemi Seven," then CHP Officer Jon Baker should have been driving a 97-03 Ford SuperDuty.
