Michigan car guy scam artist apprehended

I was forwarded this by a friend who knew I had been taken for about $1000.00, I don't know if anyone else between Toledo and Chicago has been burned by the guy but I figure I would forward the (almost funny) CL post. He was an autocrosser and rally racer but recently has been driving a bit more crooked path.

What was his scam?

Wow! He put a deposit down on a VW race car I had for sale & kept putting off the pickup. I gave him 2 weeks & after 2 months I told him I was selling it again. Even told him I would refund his deposit if he brought back the extra wheels & spares I initially gave him (worth more than the deposit).

He swore up & down that he was going to sue me, threatened me, etc Then I never heard another word. I never got scammed but interested to know the story...

Seems like he kinda scammed you, if he got more stuff than he paid for.

Kinda the same things he did with us. He had a couple Neon Rally cars back in the day and a few DOHC Sentras he autocrossed. I was going to buy one of the Sentras and Scott was going to buy the second. I gave him about $1,000.00 and he got flaky with me. It seems he didn't actually own the cars but they were someone elses. I took my debt out in wheels and tires... they were probably Kendalls. (This was in 2001/2002)

This was Jan-March 2009 (this year) that I dealt with him. Seemed like a nice guy but totally scatter brained (maybe that was the scam).
