Has anyone here had the joy of having a mid-foot fusion surgery? I'm pretty sure my left foot has finally reached that stage and this is unfortunately in my future. Just wanting to hear from someone that the recovery isn't as bad as it sounds.

More than you wanted to know about mid-foot surgery

I've dealt with flat feet my entire life and worn orthotics since I was 13. On top of this, I have extreme flexion in this joint which has caused extra wear over the years. I've done injections in the joint multiple times and become more mindful of how much time I spend on my feet. Normally some advil and a night's rest got me back to a relatively painless level. After working in my shop yesterday I'm now in a non-weight-bearing situation with my left foot. Blech.

Trying to contemplate 6 weeks of non-weight-bearing post-surgery and 12+ weeks of recovery is difficult. But, if it gets me mobile again it's the price to pay.

Not my foot now, but maybe soon.

Can't help on your forthcoming surgery, only having had a great toe recently fused. I will say that when they say no weight bearing, they mean it. Half a year sounds like a long time. You need a knee scooter because crutches suck, but good luck finding a nice one. Check-out my thread of my quest to build the best knee scooter in the world. Too bad I didn't need it by the time I got finished modifying it.  Good luck. :)

Orthopedic Knee Scooters. What to buy?

I've seen that thread! Unfortunately, I can't use a knee scooter. With my C5/6/7 spinal injury I have no triceps or pectoralis major muscles. Combine that with a weak core/bad balance and anything rolling like that is pretty much a recipe for disaster for me. I'm doing my damndest to stay out of a wheelchair but it may be a necessity during this recovery.

They told me that it was OK to use the bum foot (in a foot brace) for balance while trying to pivot on the good foot but NEVER put any weight on it. Pretty much impossible to do and the nurse laughed at how many times they had to go back in, re-break the foot and start over.

While you can, install hand rails around your toilet and bathtub. I used 1x4 vinyl trim boards attached to the handrails with stainless hardware screwed to the studs. Sorry for the dirty shower surround.

I'll come down and do stuff while you point me around the shop.  Hell I'm due for some of that good BBQ anyway.

I can come and grab the other end of whatever Stampie is told to move if you need to make the shop wheelchair accessible.

Since the watercraft bumped this, how's your foot doing?
