REVISE AND RESUBMIT
In reply to DarkMonohue :
Reject them. Give them 3 days to make the corrections, then move on to the next contractor on the list. If they can't manage submittals, they certainly can't manage to do the job.
In reply to Toyman! :
I'm on the design (consulting) side, so not in a position to choose contractors, but this typically gets a "revise and resubmit" from us. If there's any risk of slowing the project down or creating friction then a quick call to the GC to take their pulse usually helps move things forward.
It's just irritating. Most ECs do a pretty great job with submittals, but some of them just can't be arsed.
Is it something in the air or the water?
People online just seem waaaay to anxious to be experts and degrade every singular person who posts something online that exists for consumption. The comment section of Speedhunters has turned into a E36 M3 show over everything and seem hell bent on just making it so they (Speedhunters Staff) will just turn off comments completely because we aren't allowed nice things online all due to endowment jealousy or something.

I mean... I had drafting class in 10th grade.
I didn't do well, but the class was there.
Flight from NY to Chicago, I was running late to the airport due to road construction in 2 places in 40 miles.
parking garage and open parking are closed due to volume and resurfacing, had to double back to the economy lot which is almost a half mile walk. Hoof it fast to make it, get to security and get a text, 1 hour delay. so far 1 hour has become 2....3... and now 4. Will have to drive to Milwaukee because there is no connecting flights this late. Yea business travel.
I am stuck with the worst company on the planet, Optimum, for my internet and phone. They charge $170 a month for this privilege, and two or more times a month my service goes out and the modem needs to be reset remotely. I don't have cell service here so I have to drive to where I do, the argue with an automated menu that wants doesn't understand what I'm asking and can't connect me to a person. The future sucks in almost every way possible. .
After the fifth hour of delay I gave up and started walking to my car. I exaggerated it was only .45 miles. Before I made it to the car I got a text that said the flight was cancelled.
FedEx delivered a multi-thousand dollar package to my house today. It was signed for by me, apparently. Only problem is I'm a thousand miles away for the next week. Thankfully my girlfriend was able to leave work and get it. I'm just thankful it survived two hours in an area with a lot of traffic from homeless folk
Second rant is that it was shipped from New York, and the shipping company didn't provide me any notification it had been shipped until it was already out for delivery
Today's rant is the screw in my wife's tire that was not able to be patched. Michelin no longer makes that tire (Defender LTX M/S - which I love) in the 245/60/18 size, which means two new tires. Existing tires have 5/32-6/32 of tread, which means we really need to replace all 4. So long story short, we're now screwed to the tune of $1100.
I technically could have replaced two tires, but that would have killed the rotation pattern (front to back, back to front switching sides), and given me a different set of tires front/rear, along with different tread depths. And I'd still be buying tires a year out to replace the old ones. The most valuable thing I learned from my Skip Barber class 20 years ago was the importance of good tires, so four new tires it is.

Starlink time?
I'll add one: coming back from AL. Had multiple slow-downs on I40/I81 due to law enforcement activity on the side of the road. Everyone slows down AND moves to the left lane. Come on people! It is one or the other!!!!
Oh, and every "incident" was a disabled vehicle with at least 5 cars/officers standing around talking. Slow morning for the local sheriff departments, evidently.
In reply to jmabarone :
Actually, in Delaware the law says slow down AND move over. They don't mean "to a crawl", but they want both.
In reply to Duke :
Delaware title 21 section 4134:
(2) A person driving a vehicle who is approaching a stationary vehicle giving a warning signal shall do 1 of the following:
a. Proceed with caution and yield the right-of-way by making a lane change into a lane not adjacent to that of a stationary vehicle described in this subsection, if possible with due regard to safety and traffic conditions, if on a roadway having at least 4 lanes with not less than 2 lanes proceeding in the same direction as the approaching vehicle.
b. Proceed with caution and reduce the speed of the vehicle to a safe speed while passing a stationary vehicle described in this subsection, if changing lanes would be impossible or unsafe.

Mostly, because your average driver doesn't have the bandwidth to deal with the demands of driving while attempting to read a street sign with the radio playing.

If I wanted to create a picture of a table, and have someone recognize it as a table, I would be way farther ahead to just go to the shop and build one.
Me no draw stuff good.

I don't check my text messages during the day. I may glance at it during lunch but usually, I check them when I get home.
I'll be sitting in my chair going through them and talking to the wife. My wife will have sent me a text at some point during the day asking a question. Since I'm reading it, I text her back the answer. Her phone goes off, she looks at it with a perplexed expression and asks me why I'm texting her. My usual response is, "Why are you texting me when you know I seldom read them?"

Happened to me a couple of weeks ago, too. FedEx left a nice expensive parcel from B&H on my doorstep without any human or feline interaction, despite texting me multiple times that it needed a signature. Impressed, I wasn't.
I mean, there are many many times throughout the day when I can have a text exchange but can't take a phone call.

"...if lane changing lanes would be impossible or unsafe."
All of the PSAs and highway reader boards say you should both slow down AND move over if it is safe to do so.
In reply to Duke :
That may be... But the law doesn't appear to say that. They're just contributing to the poor education of drivers in this country.
Now the rant...
Our business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Any work done outside of those hours is billed as overtime. I don't care if it's scheduled, it's still overtime. I'm not going to ask my people to work nights or weekends and miss time with their families without paying them a premium. Therefore you get to pay the premium as well.
I don't really care how your other contractors do business. They E36 M3 on their employees and then you complain about the E36 M3 work.
On the other hand, you praise our work and then complain about the cost of paying overtime. Did you ever consider that we do top-rate work because I don't E36 M3 on my people? Think about that before you call complaining about the price.
You'll need to log in to post.
