Realtors. As a contractor I find them even worse than Lawyers. Two of my neighbors have their houses for sale. Are the houses on Zillow or Redfin? No. If I had to hazard a guess, it's because the listing agent thinks that they are more likely to get a full commission by bringing in the buyer. Does that benefit the seller, or the people who may never hear of the listing? No.

Some work a lot harder than others, for sure.
Our 'buying' realtor for the house we bought last year was pretty useless. He made a good commission without really doing much. All the prospects he sent us weren't what I told him we were looking for, and I found the house we ended up buying the day it went on the market.
Our 'selling' realtor was great, but he was already an acquaintance, and a neighbor. We had a serious issue with the appraisal, and I thought the realtor could have done a little more about it, but we were otherwise happy. We made a complaint with the state about the appraiser... he used a comp that was $100k under market because it had a cracked foundation, and many other problems, but refused to amend his appraisal after being notified of those issues. Cost us about $10k due to the buyer's financing, but we didn't want to take it back on the market to hopefully make that back in who knows how long...
Then again, my BIL is retired and does realty part time.... he has a lot of horror stories about customers as well... LOL

That may be... But the law doesn't appear to say that. They're just contributing to the poor education of drivers in this country.
The law cannot require you to move over if it is "unsafe or impossible" to do so. But the way the law is written, the first option is to move over and proceed with caution (ie, slow down). The second option - just slow down - is a contingency that comes into play when it is unsafe or impossible to move over.
No good deed goes unpunished in the never ending saga with my in-laws. There have been issues with both of my BILs since we were married. FIL constantly tries to force us all to be a big happy family. The latest is that my wife sent a text to FIL inviting them over for dinner on Mother's day. We can't ask MIL directly because her memory is terrible. He, of course, sent this long text to my wife declining our invitation because "Mom says she can't be happy unless the while family is together." Frankly, I think he's lying. He can't be happy unless the whole family is together. They spent Christmas with BIL#1 in Florida. As far as we know they are still in Florida right now and BIL#2 has to work, so why can't we have dinner together? If I find out that they wind up at BIL#1's I'm going to pitch a fit.
Local baseball team has an afternoon game today, so last second I decided to go to the ballpark, figuring I can grab a general admission ticket, and head to their outfield bar and have a nice beverage in the sunshine while watching some baseball. Well, as it turns out, they no longer have a ticket office, just a giant QR code in the window, which directs you to their website. Fine. The lowest tickets are $25 a pop just to get into the building for a game that's already in the 2nd inning. I'm not paying that just to have the privilege of buying more from the team. They would have made more money with a reasonable ticket price. Their loss.

WHY are people so stupid.
My family has an unreasonable love affair with Guardianware cooking stuff. If you don't know, think Griswold cast iron, but cast aluminum instead.
Saw a GW percolator coffee pot at a flea market and sent a pic to the family chat. Too late my older sister asks me if I bought it for her. "Nope, already left. Sorry, sis." But now I have a Christmas idea.
Find a good on on eBay. Hit Buy It Now. Ships nice and quick.
The berkin idiot didn't wrap the ONE PIECE THAT COULD BREAK.
Now I gotta deal with a return.
Berk's sake.

I once bought a set of a dozen or more plates on eBay and the seller just piled them on top of each other and wrapped the whole pile in paper. The mess was quite extraordinary.
We're in Colorado celebrating my daughter's graduation with her Doctorate in Pharmacy. Super happy to be here, we've had a great week.
However, last Thursday we landed, got the rental vehicle, and as we were driving to Denver on I-25, this happened:
We were stopped in traffic. The cars on all sides of us were stopped. Hell, there was a car in back of us that was almost stopped!
I look in the rear view and see this kid coming in at high speed, trying to swerve in between cars. He barely misses a couple as they try to dodge, and he loses control, sliding into our lane (missing the car in back of us), and WHAM.
19 years old, no insurance. He got cited for following too closely and for driving without insurance. GEICO will cover the rental car damage but I'll be out my $2500 deductible.
I'm tempted to take him to court but I doubt I'd ever recover any judgement.
Can we just write it into the programming of the forum that if you put Quickbooks in a thread title, you're instantly banned?

Check the terms of the credit card you used to book the rental. Sometimes they come with insurance to cover your deductible.

But.....I was just about to start a thread called "How to I get QuickBooks to lie to me about how much I'm actually spending on these stupid project cars?"

I would rather have a n00b posting area. If you have 10 posts or under you can only post a new thread in that section. Respond to any thread outside it no issues.
It would be easier to move valid threads out of it and wipe the whole section every morning.
goddamn. Bought this Tuesday. Dated 7/23/24. Opened it this morning and it's fixing moldy already?!?

Shop is on a skeleton crew. Had a supplier issue and are missing a component that won't let us churn out machines, so most of the guys are at home.
I hate it. Skeleton crew days always make me feel restless and bored.
My gumption level is in the negative numbers today. Rainy days suck.

This is what hot and sunny days do to me. Anything above high 70s and I want to lay down and die. Naturally, we are going straight from constant rain to mid-80s.
Finally started to get cleaning out some of the bullE36 M3 I was left with from 4.5 years ago... I berkeleying hate cleaning. It doesn't help I'm being hoarded out again.... But it is a start I guess no matter how small.
This doesn't even count the outbuilding with more E36 M3 in it.

I really need to get on this. I'm kinda waiting for retirement before I really pitch in in earnest.
Good luck, man. Every bit helps.

I hauled off two truckloads of scrap and trash in the last week. It really doesn't look like I did anything. I feel your pain

I have a building with nothing but engines and some transmissions in it.
300 i6- gone. Mustang2 302-gone. 2 2.3 turbos-gone. That will leave me a 90 mustang 5.0, a 95 lightning 351, a 77 car 460, my burnt up 6l80, and an aod....

I have the last week of the month off, I will be diving into my shop space for a solid day cleaning and making it so I *want* to work on projects in there. Lots of garbage to go.

Take him to court, get a judgment. If he doesn't pay, file a lien against whatever car he gets next. Take possession of said car. Who knows, based on the photo, you might wind up with an E36 or something similar.

$2500 deductible? Ouch!
FWIW: Uninsured motorist is stupid cheap to add to your policy.

With the yard sale for The Dancer's non-profit coming up and a bit over 2 weeks, I want to:
- go through my clothes and get rid of everything I'm not likely to wear again
- sort through the office closet and get rid of some things I don't need
- go through our kitchen cabinets and get rid of all of the tupperware we don't need at least, and ideally some other stuff we never use
and other stuff- none of which I've gotten anything of a start on. The Dancer also really needs to go through her half of the closet and the closet in the guest room where all of the stuff her Mom has sent home with us over the years has been stashed. I think it will take a minor miracle for any of that to happen in time...

Downside: the cost of simply doing this could add up since it sounds like it's out of state. Back when I was in HS my Mom was in an accident in CA with a car that a) ran a red light b) had a driver with no license or insurance and c) had 1.5 times as many occupants as there were seat belts. Frankly given the speeds involved (state highway intersection) it's a miracle none of the minors in the other car were more badly injured. The police initially failed to note the second two items, and the other car's occupants tried to sue our insurance for their medical bills. Thankfully since they were suing the insurance company, the insurance company paid to fly my Mom back to CA from Germany where we were stationed when the case finally went to trial.
