A battery disconnect doesn't always work anymore.  Automakers are getting better and better at storing things in nonvolatile memory.  In the bad old days some cars would barely run after you disconnected the battery until they relearned idle and fuel trims, so this is actually a pretty good step forward.

If you have a scan tool then it should be pretty straightforward.  I am assuming you have a Ross-Tech, they have a very good wiki for these things.  Heck, their wiki is useful even if you don't have their scantool, I reference it a lot.

Not really a rant...

Was out practicing bass in the garage. I'm partway through a song and a yellowjacket comes up and starts flying around my fretting hand while I'm playing. Tried to madly shoo it away while keeping playing. It was not discouraged. I gave up.

Nobody likes a critic smiley

At the Batcave, one of the tenants likes to set up some drums and an amp outside on nice evenings and they noodle around.  One night he was trying to play "On a Plane" and it took all of my willpower to not go out there and show him what he was getting wrong smiley

I was using a headphone amp so as not to bother anyone.

Maybe he took offense to my dance moves.

I just learned that Draft Kings bans people from their site if they win too much. I guess that I shouldn't be surprised, but it seems that hardly a day goes by without being made aware of something new that if not illegal, seems fundamentally immoral.

Sigh. Thank goodness for friends, nature, fun machinery and places like this.

Last week, the Touareg had a brain fart about 200 yards from the house. It would idle fine, but the throttle would only give you about 5 mph. Usually limp mode with give you 15-20% power. This was like it was in limp mode+ and only giving 2-3% power. My first thought was the throttle position sensor. I limped it home, plugged in my code reader, and found nothing. No CEL, no pending or set codes. Nothing. I went through the live data and checked everything. I also actuated the intake and EGR solenoids. Everything was within spec, and the throttle pedal was within spec as well. However, there was still no throttle.

Some reading said a standard code reader won't pull all of the codes from a VAG vehicle and you had to have VCDS. So I got online and ordered a VCDS from Ross Tech. It arrived yesterday. Idownloaded the software, plugged it up, and scanned all the modules again. Guess what? Yep, no codes in the system. WTF. So I went back through the modules and checked everything I could think of using live data in VCDS. Everything looked to be in spec. I started the engine and it idled like normal and a test drive showed the problem had gone away.

So did using VCDS work on something not shown on the scan? Could it have reset whatever was sending it into limp mode? Was something hot and failing but not out of spec enough to throw a CEL?

Now I have a running vehicle I don't trust because I don't know what the hell was wrong with it.  I berkeleying hate that.

Ban them from every MLB ballpark. And if I were in the MLBPA, I'd be pushing on Mookie to press charges.

The way they were bending his wrist, there was potential for a career-ending injury there. I'm surprised that this isn't getting more press.

I need new wheels for my 3/4 ton truck. 06 Silverado 2500HD Gas.

8x165.1

It's primary use is truck life. It's used in the field to fix fencing, haul garbage / scrap to their destinations, pull trailers, spend a lot of time on gravel roads. Truck things. It's ugly and scratched/ dented from being used like a truck. I want to clean and fix it up because upgrading / fixing everything is greatly cheaper than replacing it.

I want 10ply tires with some sidewall. Because it's a truck. My factory 16" steel wheels just *barely* clear the factory brakes so I wanted to up-size to 17" and maybe bump up to a bigger tire (currently uses 265/75r16's)

17" Steel wheels are out of stock every where for it. I'd settle on black if I have to, I'd strongly prefer white but I am open to what I can get, and I could paint black wheels white if I need to.

But if I want ugly useless 24"+ with 4" lips and ugly spoke designs I can have them today.

After 106 days of talking with a general contractor that my coworker recommended, the shower door for the master bathroom is finally getting installed today.

This contractor has been around for awhile. They seem to have a decent amount of business. They wanted me to pay upfront to order the shower door and labor before scheduling the install. Ok, I guess that makes sense since there is some risk involved. That wasn't a big deal.

After some back and forth on scheduling, I was told yesterday that the installers would be here at 8am. They showed up at 9:45am.

After working for about an hour, they had to leave to go buy another masonry bit for their drill. They brought ONE drill bit to the worksite. How does that make sense?

When they were gone, I snuck into the bathroom to check their work. The office manager/scheduler purchased the shower door in the incorrect finish. I thought we had agreed on brushed nickel but she purchased chrome. This could be my fault as when she emailed me the shower door, stating that she found it in the finish I wanted, I didn't explicitly state to order brushed nickel.

They just left for lunch. I was under the impression that it would take a couple of hours for the install, not all berking day.

I should have just done it myself and saved $800 frown.

So next chapter in the golf saga:

Battery disconnect did nothing but I decided to try spraying starting fluid to see if it was fueling issues. Car started right up. I can even rev it a time or 2 before it dies.

I can hear the fuel pump engage, so getting fuel but not enough.

That sounds like a fuel filtery thing to do to me

Autotrader has started turning into Facebook Marketplace.  Even using "Advanced Search", and filtering for what you want, it will pepper in "Suggested Matches" that aren't what you filtered for.

Listen here you cheap bastard offspring of a whore of a large language model search engine and lazy programming, when I put "manual transmission", I meant "manual tranmission".  I don't care how much a given dealership is paying you for sponsored content/listing visibility boost, I don't want their automatic version of the same car because it's "close to what you searched for", it's why I used the berkeleyING FILTERS!

I own the "master" fuel pressure test kit.

How come I still don't have the fitting I need?

Related, why can't ATV manufacturers put a standard test port on the fuel rail?

It's not rocket appliances.

There's only one limp mode.  You got it.  The throttle stays fixed at 10-15% or so.

Whatever hiccuped (hicced up) went away before you could find it.

At least you have the right tools, now.

I think those might have been caught up in some issues with the fuel pump cap. Plastic mismolding/material degradation. Might pull the back seat to take a peek and see if it's cracked/leaking.

I experienced limp mode when the DPF failed. It would still accelerate and would run 30-40 mph. This time it would barely move so I'm wondering if it was in limp mode or if something else was going on.

It has run fine the last couple of days but I'll be keeping my laptop and the VCDS with me for the foreseeable future.
