Man, the folks over at smartasset sure can pack a lot of dumb into a small space.

Don't take SS until you're 70...don't touch your 401K / Roth until you're 72 (the RMD's actually kick in at 73 for anyone currently younger than 74).

Gee, it's almost like they're focused on maximizing the size of the portfolios they manage rather than what's in their clients best interests; almost.

I've been idly considering selling the Manic Miata and buying something a bit less extreme.

Nick D posted the absolutely perfect replacement on FB EU.  It's readily affordable, assuming I can get out of the Miata what I have in it, which is a reasonable proposition.

But I had only been idly considering it, and now suddenly I'm WOT considering it, and I'm not a sudden kind of person.

First World problem, I know.

Sorry

Always has been always will be when someone takes a percentage of the investments actively invested.

Not that I am anyone to judge I have more then I need now but cannot shake the feeling that it will never be enough. But all I do is plow the money into vanguard and tax defered.

So, funny story, the guy that sent me that link that I posted was the guy that called me up and said "Hey, I know a guy with an MR2 Spyder for sale", which is the Spyder I ended up buying. I also talked him into buying the world's ugliest NA Miata for his son. So, yeah, keep me and that guy away from each other.

I have been having a hell of a time sleeping, I sleep 12 hours and still feel exhausted. I've always had insomnia but this is different, although I admit that I can count on one hand how often in a year I wake up less tired then when I went to sleep.

So I bought an off brand Fitbit thing to track my sleep. 40min to an hour and half deep sleep, that'll do it. I had my wife wear it just to see if the off brand thing sucked and she registered 4 and a half hours of deep sleep.

I need to figure this out soon so I don't lose my E36 M3

I stayed up until midnight last night to catch a Black Friday sale. First off, who the berkeley decided that it would be a great idea to start the sale at 12am on a Tuesday??? Second, the website was really unresponsive. I had the one set of wheels that were in available in the color I wanted in my cart but the site wouldn't load up the pop up for the credit card information. I gave up after 30 minutes and went to bed. Booooo!

The win was that I woke up at 5am and tried it one more time. The sale went through on the first try and I saved a little over a grand on the set.

In reply to Antihero :

Alcohol consumption will do that to me. Takes about a week to go away. 6 weeks to get my resting heart rate to go low.

my wife on the other hand has an alcoholic drink most days and sleeps far better than I do. It's annoying.

Since I had a gout flare I didn't drink at all for near a month, it didn't change anything for me.

So far I've tried:

Melatonin ( 1:30 and 1:40)

Magnesium ( 1:50 and 1:40)

Sleeping 6-7 hours ( 50min to 1:10)

Drinking a night cap( 1:45 and 1:50)

Not drinking (1:45, 1:20 and several at 1:30ish)

Sleeping as much as possible ( 1:25 and 1:45)

All these are really -ish obviously

I'm trying to be somewhat scientific about it so I can see what the berkeley but I can't crack 2 hours at all. I could try sleeping pills but every time I take an OTC one it takes me a day to recover from the drowsiness

Do you wake up frequently needing to pee?  Do you snore, even lightly?

Sounds like sleep apnea to me.  Ever been tested?

In reply to Duke :

Not too frequently, I guess it depends on how much I drink before sleep though

I do snore, but from what I'm told it hasn't changed. Sleep apnea does sound likely, although a bit odd that it kinda popped up.

Whether or not it is sleep apnea, time for a sleep study.

Or if that is out of the cards, at least try a breathe right strip.

I have done the breathe right strips in the past , but totally forgot about trying them again. I'll give them a shot.

If none of this works, we are onto a sleep study/doctor intervention definitely

The average adult needs about 1:30 to 2 hours deep sleep a night. Four hours is not a typical target. I get about an hour and feel pretty good with that. The deep sleep the Fitbit is measuring is the slow wave sleep and people just usually don't get that much of it. I'm shocked that your wife can get four hours of it - that is contrary to most guidelines as far as what's possible. More power to her for sure but that amount is vanishingly rare.

My worry is that the Fitbit is vastly over estimating deep sleep so if it's double, I'm getting about a half hour total.

Regardless I can't get a level of sleep that lets me feel rested, so while the numbers could be inexact, I'd like to get more and at the moment it's the only measuring device I have

OMBG you've been continuously snorking huge headfuls of snot and hacking up your lungs for a week now.  You refuse to wear a mask and it's a small open office.  Berking pneumonia is making the rounds and you know it.  You've been saying you need to go to the doctor for at least 5 days.

SO BERKING GO ALREADY.

I understand you're the boss but you need to understand that if you make me sick I am going to down tools immediately and not come back until I am in tip top heath. That will hurt you way more than it will hurt me.

Well, once again I start talking to someone for a over a month, we go on a date and things are great, and then shortly after the topic of kids come up and they want them and things come to a screeching halt. All I hear about is how less and less people my age want kids and the birth rate is decreasing, etc. So where are all the other people that also don't want kids?

You want an interlock system designed, built, and installed on 11 doors in 6 different rooms and you need it done by December the 16th?

I'm not even sure I can get the materials by then.

After reading another factually incorrect AI - generated Facebook post, I conjured an image of a "truth doom loop" where the AI is "learning" from factually incorrect content generated by, you guessed it....other AIs. And on it goes, polluted generation after polluted generation. The AI is trying to ascertain what the truth actually is, but the piece about the 12-cylinder rotary engine has been reposted so many times, it must be true, right?

By God! That makes them almost human!

The amount of factually incorrect human-generated content that is read and repeated as truth by other humans is mind-boggling.

For all the people here that recommended the Bosch dishwasher, I've been suspect of your opinions ever since I bought ours, brought it home, and found out it holds like a third less than the KitchenAid it replaced.

What are you all doing about silverware coming out dirtier than it went in? Because I'm really getting ready to sell this piece of E36 M3
