I logged into work today for the first time in six months and sent out a Proof Of Life email to the team. Within a half hour I got an email from a newer employee about a personality conflict that she wanted me to resolve. She said "I've never been so insulted." Really? First off, I read it and it didn't look that terrible. Second, is your skin really that thin? I've been insulted much worse than that at work.
I expected something like this would happen when I came back. I just didn't expect to hear anything less an hour into my first day.
Early retirement is looking better and better.
While there's no getting out of considering her complaint, I'd be having a discussion with her about the wisdom of asking someone who has been out of the office for the last six months to address a conflict of this kind-- it's not a good look.
Yeah, I'm not happy and I'm going to let her know. I'm not too impressed with my boss either. I didn't hear form him until a couple weeks ago. I had employees out for a month and called or emailed them to ask how they were doing and if there was anything I could do for them. I really need to keep my E36 M3 together until next Thursday. After that this place can berkeley off.
Yesterday evening I logged onto FB and the first post that I saw was a post by the wife of the author of a long-running Sci-Fi book series (serial, almost) that I've been reading for a while letting everyone know that her husband had died that morning of a massive heart attack in his sleep. Despite having never actually met or even been in direct contact with the author, this hit me really hard as it brought me back to when much the same thing had happened to a friend of mine about 15 or so years ago- he suffered a massive heart attack in the middle of the night and his wife woke up and discovered what had happened. It's also one of my bigger fears- I know how hard it hit my friend's wife, and honestly the thought of what something like that would do to The Dancer worries me less than my worries about death in general.
In reply to Ashyukun (Robert) :
This happened to a friend of mine almost exactly five years ago. He's still traumatized by it, as they hadn't been married for very long when it happened.
I'll admit to checking to see if it was one of my favorite authors, too...
Called AAA for a wrecker at 1:30.
Called twice sice then, automated system tells me im in que.
Finally get a human just now who tells me that the order was sent to a wrecker comapny that went out of buisness, so i will have to be put back in que, amd be present with the vehicle when the get there.
Im berkeleying PISSED.
Thanks Mr eBay scammer for sending me this broken, incomplete, rusted LSD. [\sarcasm]

My experience with AAA is that they'll jerk you around till you hire your own, then they'll call you this Thursday to see if you still need a tow, then lie to you about sending you a reimbursement form in the mail.
I work nights. I get home at 2:30 every morning. The berkeleying 4 year old was as surprised to see me walking in, as I was to see his ass up watching TV.
1. 7yr old daughter had an itchy eye and wouldn't go to sleep. Ran to the store to get eye drops after she asked. Came home and was too afraid because the bottle was a different shape than the last bottle. 1 hr meltdown later she finally gets to sleep.
2. I forgot to move the elf this last night. I wanted nothing to do with the elf. Never have. Just one more story to have to explain that it isn't real later. I get it makes kiddo happy but it's just a pain in the arse. Hopefully my wife got to it first.
Maintenance guys replaced the filter in the server room HVAC yesterday and forgot to turn it back on.
It was toasty this morning.
You kicked my crew off the job for a week and a half so we wouldn't interfere with your flooring guy. Then you scheduled your inspections for the 12th. Now you want my people to work through the weekend because your piss poor planning means we may not be done in time for your DHEC inspection?
How about no. I didn't bid on this job at overtime. I will not work my guys overtime unless you are going to cough up the money to pay the overtime. Keep in mind that I don't have any low-pay/no-pay laborers so any overtime will be very expensive and I'm not eating the cost.

I hate the elf and the concept of the elf. I killed it after the first season

The author was Jerry Boyd- he wrote a long-running (he released the 52nd book about a month ago) sci-fi/space opera series generally referred to as the Bob and Nikki series as well as having just started another series earlier this year. Not super well-known, but I really enjoyed his books and he was insanely productive generally putting out a new book (well, novella is probably more accurate as I think in print they would come in at about 160 pages or so) every month. I hadn't known it until his wife posted about the funeral arrangements yesterday that they lived in or near the town I lived in as a child and returned to while I attended the college (along with eastsidemav)- Rolla, Missouri.
And I just found out this morning that someone I knew from my convention days died as well. Unfortunately I suppose I need to start getting my head around the fact that this is only going to start happening more often now- I'm pushing 50 so many of my friends are in the same age range (and not getting any younger, unfortunately). My parents are in their mid-70's and have been making arrangements to make things easier on my brother and I (probably more on my brother since he lives with them) for when they're gone.

Last year I printed out these for my cousins and in-laws that have kids- every one of them thought it was fantastic.

In the span of 3 hours yesterday I went from "I actually pulled this off!" to "I totally berkeleyed this up!". There's no fixing it either.
Quite the ride I must say.

I think I got most burned by eBay one time when a guy sent me a very used "NEW" Eaton supercharger. It was used and had even been taken apart. I got my money back but how in the WORLD does the proven scammer seller get the privilege of writing his own review of ME!?
"buys things, whines, wants money back"
I'm still rather pissed about that one. For one thing, the thing I got was SUPPOSED to whine but did NOT. >:(
I mixed 15.5 lbs of Science diet 11+ with 15.5 lbs of Science Diet furball control cat crunchies. Turns out Bahno can't eat the furball control because he's old and the pieces are too big. So we've got to sift cat food a couple times a week. Thankfully I got a new litter scoop today that works for that. Still a PITA.

My objection is that you push the shifter forward to go backwards and pull the shifter backwards to go forward...input directionality should always match response directionality...this is not rocket surgery, this is super duper, duper basic stuff.
Almost every single floor-mount automatic shifter on the planet has you pull backwards from park through reverse to drive.
[edit] Note to self: read further for responses before replying with redundant post.

I think I'll download a few of his books, sounds like a cool premise

Burlesque show last night, The Empire Strips Back. Multiple friends recommended it saying it was well done.
Bought us tix, got there last night about door open at 7pm, got really good seats. Guy next to SWMBO joked to his lady about getting a lap dance from a stormtrooper, I told her to tell him to watch what he wishes for. He looked over and saw my 501st shirt & I said "$20 is $20". We fist-bumped.
10 minutes after the show was supposed to start, house lights came up, they announced the show was canceled due to tech difficulties. Everyone's faces (including mine) thought this was part of the act. Nope. A lot of people had just bought drinks and now had to finish them before they left. I bought a $25 shirt, but at least it's a sexy stormtrooper.
Social media comments on their posts were brutal. At least it was just Cincinnati for us (from Dayton), someone commented he drove 4hrs from Detroit and wasted 2 vacation days! I got an email after I left about vouchers for another show (most are sold out), but SWMBO can't make any other date. They mentioned refunds but the email said nothing.
This morning I got an email saying I was getting a refund, so there's that. Vendor lady tried to get us to drive to Louisville, yeah no thanks.

I'm a huge fan of a very simple requirement: "show the out the door price"
If something is not optional, it must be rolled into the listed price.
This scammy E36 M3 done by ticket companies and car dealerships is infuriating.

I've seen "convenience fees" for printing your own tickets! Like, what the actual heck?!
