How much processing is required? I just want my damn shower shoes since my flip-flops broke and they don't have any at my deployed location :(

I love my wife with all my heart but my god I cannot take the doom and gloom. We live in California, we have decent resources to help our LGBT+ family members and we will survive all the stupidity and if we don't nothing we could have done to prepare would ever be enough.

Raging at me about Iowa and where our extended family lives for the last two months, your parents being stuck in the 1950's I am just over it. Go yell at them and stop thinking I am someone you can rant at. I spend 10+ hours a day working and most of that is talking constantly and keeping people alive and unhurt, I am completely blown out. I need a hour to decompress and read before I get into making dinner or talking about my day.

I am going to delete this at some point.

I'm with you. Even being on the same "side", I can not handle that constant doom stream.

I'm tired of just complaining. Complaining doesn't accomplish anything. It just makes me feel *worse*. It leaves me with less energy. Give me something I can *do* to help change things and I'll be up for it.

I'm considering becoming actively involved in politics, but I really don't want to be. I don't want to be a member of either political party. But I also wonder if this is the same sort of thing as, "The people who should be running the HOA are the ones who don't want to be running the HOA."

Or split the difference and focus on a single issue that I care about and finding a group who wants to lobby for that to get a political party to *actually* enact it.

And my Boss just had a blowout with management and quit on the spot. Already removed from email and company list. As if 50+ hour weeks weeks were not long enough I get to deal with all this now.

I am going home and getting plastered if I can get out of here before 6:30pm.

Have you read the Hitch Hikers' Guide to the Galaxy series?

In one of the later books, we find that the person who is in charge of the Galaxy doesn't even know that is position.  This is because their system functions off of the concept that anybody who wants to be in charge shouldn't be in charge.

The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarise: it is a well known fact that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarise the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarise the summary of the summary: people are a problem.

We actually met the guy, in one of the later books. He lived alone with a cat on a mostly empty planet.  People came to him, asked questions, and left.  He was describing this to the person who teleported to his house (may have been Ford, may have been Arthur) and contemplated that maybe his cat thought they were singing to him.
