Massengil douche is supposed to be the hot tip for de-skunking dogs. Really.
I should make a "your mom" joke here, but in all honesty we always had three or four bottles of that at deer camp growing up because MY mom thought it was the bee's knees for skunks and our dogs were idiots too. In my experience it kind of worked.
I have the dog smelling acceptable. You don't want to sit next to her or pet her, but you don't have to leave the room. I call that success. Deucekid#1 cheufering me to the airport. All is well.
It's too bad you can't get that "track day brake pad" smell in a can. :)
They make dog shampoo exactly for this scenario.
Don't use chemicals or stuff for humans. It really kills their skin. They have a dramatically different ph than humans.

If the dog took a shot to the face, it will take months for it to completely vanish.
Mine still smells like skunk when it rains, after 3 months, the H2O2/baking powder/dawn treatment, and professional bath.
It seems to emanate from his mouth, nose, and skin, as if it's in his pores.
Usually a wipe down with this will get rid of the lingering odors until the next time:

I've also had success putting it in a spray bottle to treat the house and cars.
