...A guy is asking me if I have some 4AF ignition parts, which I do. You know if I sell them, those parts on my engine will fail immediately (again) and I'll have to smuggle some back from Canada...again. But if I don't sell them I'm no better than the other AE92 parts-hoarders on the island (we're a tight-knit community of predatory parts vultures).

What do I do?

Well. you could always offer to sell them at a high enough profit to cover your replacement costs. He might not be happy, but that still seems reasonable given the situation.

Yeah, every time that I've sold Miata parts off cheap, since they've been sitting around forever, I end up having to buy them within weeks. Thankfully, I don't have to smuggle them in from Canada (though it would give me an excuse to visit home), but still, I end up paying multiples of what I sold them for. Now, I try not to have more than 1 of anything that I'm going to need, unless it's a regular consumable.

I often suffer the same fate when I sell something cheap. I'd smuggle another to sell instead of selling one that you already have. Try turning a profit now, instead of gambling your parts away.

Wow, coming from the old car parts business, if I can't double what I paid for the item then I don't sell it.

If you're selling it for less than you paid, you might as well just throw it away.

Storage can become an issue though.

Sell them for what replacing them is worth to you. You're being honest in offering the guy the parts, and offering them for what they're worth. No one's making him buy them.

That's no moral dilemma. A moral dilemma is when your attractive, female cousin is going commando while wearing a miniskirt. Do you look, or not?

I believe that they have recently come to the conclusion that cousins having a child have no real increased chance of birth defects.

Just so you know.

This information probably would have been more useful before the holidays..
