I haven't heard from GTXVette in quite a while, or Flight Service.

He's posted in the Enablers FB group, but not for a few months.

So the answer to this is to have 3 people, whom you've communicated with, that are the contingency plan for the hobby and project stuff. Communicate the plan and expectations of what's to be sold off and expected or potential value of said items. Discuss with them if there's anything that they'd appreciate having and document it with them and immediate family, in writing/text/email. The reason why you plan with three is in case something happens to one, then the burden, workload and coordination is still shared amongst multiple people, and if there's a need to accelerate the speed of things getting done, it's easier to manage doing so.

Also, I appreciate you bringing up this uncomfortable topic. I brought this up with multiple people who are on the forum, in conve off of it, within the past 48 hours, and I was uncomfortable as to where or how to bring up this topic comfortably.

Isn't it sad that we not only have had this conversation twice in a short time, but that it happens frequently enough that we have a tried-and-true plan for helping?

Mrs. UltraClyde.... I'll help in any way I can.

As will I.

Sorry for your loss.

He was SO excited for that godforsaken boat :(  I followed that thread and the prior one closely.

The neighbor on the other side of me died about 5 years ago. He had a non running boat in his driveway that he was always meaning to fix up. It was a cool old boat from the 60s with a matching Sears outboard. Blue and white. When the house flippers bought his house from the mortgage company they hired a crew to haul everything he owned into a trash dumpster to to get out of the way for the refurbishment. Everything this poor man owned went into a landfill. Everything. The acquisitions of a lifetime. The guy across the street swiped the outboard and sold it to a scrap metal company to make a few bucks. Four guys lifted the boat off the trailer and dumped it into the dumpster. Then they picked up the trailer that had two flat tires by that time and tossed it in the dumpster on top of the boat. They were in such a hurry to get the house done and back on the hot real estate market. I'm surprised they didn't throw his body in the dumpster along with the boat and the rest of his stuff.

It makes me think of all of my unfinished projects and where they might go when I die.

It really makes you think.

I had to drive to the middle of nowhere VA the last weekend of October to clean out a buddy's mini storage for his suddenly widowed wife. As me and another friend went through the boxes of stuff, we were both hit with the "I need to get rid of all of the crap at my place" thoughts. Boxes and boxes of useless stuff, just getting tossed. No clue why we all keep it, but we all do.

Watching the memorial video his work made was both awesome and heart wrenching at the same time. What a great dude we've lost. Continued prayers to his wife and family.

I hope others say a fraction of those nice things about me when I'm gone.

Hello GRM family.  This is Ultraclyde's wife.  First of all I am so sorry I did not inform the community of Ultraclyde's passing.  He loved this community so much and loved sharing all of projects with you.

For this who have asked he had a sudden stroke that led to a heart attack. It all happened in a matter of minutes.

Thank you all for the touching words and support.   It means so much.

Now that I have my own account I will check in more.  I will need this community's help in a few months selling some things that only this community will know the true value of.

So incredibly sorry for your loss. As others have said, please lean on this group. It's one big family that takes care of each other!

Good topic, (and I agree) but, having been on the grief side, maybe somewhat tasteless to someone that just lost their husband.
If you would start a new thread for that, I think a lot of folks here would like it.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  I met David when I was on the way to the 2020 Challenge, and he'd mixed up some spray bottles of disinfectant.  We talked shortly about him wanting to go to the challenge.

I hope you can tell that the offers of help from the folks on here are entirely sincere... great group!

Again, we are all sorry to hear something like this.

When I first saw Dave post under Ultraclyde my initial thought was "you are pretty badass to be Ultra anything, I'll pay attention."

He was.

I am so sorry to hear this.  My condolences to the family.  He was just a couple years older than my son who does not take care of himself.

I'm guessing it was Dave that clued me into Odoban Organic Acid bathroom cleaner as the only thing to remove soap scum from my shower.  Unfortunately I ended up never getting any because I wanted to find it in a store and not order it.  Now they have ceased making it and are not likely to restart production.

I still have the Vagabond 14 I bought from Dave.

I work in Macon, and have been thinking a lot about trying to see Dave. I'm so sad I took his presence for granted.

Mrs Ultraclyde, my deepest sympathies. I'm in your neighborhood. Please don't hesitate to ask for anything I may help you with.

I agree that it came off as callous which is not as I intended, and I do not mean to sound insensitive, I'm admittedly still a bit numb to the amount of recent losses here and within PHA. This has been a painful few weeks. My apologies. All I can do with regards to Dave is echo what's already been said better than I'd be able to.

I need to get on the bourse and get things sorted. At least separate it into toss it out and keep it as it is a family hand me down.  I keep most things in totes I was thinking of labeling them keep and toss. The keep stuff has value or is rare while the rest is just spare parts.  With a little sorting I bet I could easily get it to where eighty percent of my stuff could just be tossed with out sorting.  I have come to realize that I keep things because I can and in many cases it is easier to keep a bad transmission in the corner than to deal with getting it to the scrapper.

This summer I went through the storeroom in the garage & shed, tagging all the boxes/shelves of car parts "Miata"/"DSM"/"E250"/"RV", tossed out a GMT400 hood that no one was interested in for $50, and some other random stuff that was just in the way.

Now back at the desk...

Earlier today, when I read your response, I was in my car eating lunch.  I'm glad I asked for extra napkins with my order because as I read your posting I was drying my eyes and wiping my nose.  Some of it was selfish introspection of not wanting to go through the same.  Some of it was that your response, made it real.  But, also, having read the obit, I realize that you two have been together for more years than you've been apart.

I appreciated seeing your words that you would chime back in.  One thing I like about that was that you seem to understand and Dave seems to have shared what this place is about.  But then, I wonder if you really know what this place is about...it ain't' just cars!

So, in my ramblings here, I guess what I'm trying to get to is:
1. you'll be left with a giant hole that was DAVE.
2. we here can be a big resource.

So, let us be some of that continued voice of Dave.  It might even be something trivial like this:  It's time for a new washing machine and that might be the type of thing where you would have turned to Dave for, "should we spend to fix or just replace?"  "If we replace which one should we get?"  Bring those questions here and let us be some of that voice of Dave.

We're open 24 hours.  You can ask those questions at any time and like myself, you may be surprised how quickly real answers come your way.  Dave cultivated a great reputation here and all of that reward can still be yours.

-John, but willing to sound like Dave.

Since we've never met, personally or virtually I can imagine one thought you might have is, "these were Dave's mechanic friends."  As an example, I'll put forth this recent thread that might give you some good insight to the level of inelegance around here: https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/off-topic-discussion/what-do-you-do-for-a-job/187677/page1/

PS: the washing machine is just one example but the reason I used that example is because I own the specific model that I do from discussion here on GRM.
