And here I was about to nominate Dave's comment for "Post of the month" in the magazine. I did LOL though.

Slightly off topic, but you mentioned it....
In order to "use the filters" for the word replacement, just type teh bad words. It will fix it for you.
You dirty E36 M3ty mother berkeleyer.

You've been here since 2008, if you haven't learned about the harmless ball-busting that goes on around here, you need to harden the berkeley up Sally.

Far behind you obviously.
Lighten up, Francis.
Never lived with a pool, but my girlfriend in high school had one. I have some, umm, fond memories of it.
A friend in Germany has a pretty cool pool setup. It's all natural, basically a stream. The water flows into a pond at the end that cleans the water. No chemicals. The water is clear and feels natural. It's really nice to swim in. The little pond at the end makes for a nice feature to the house, it's got a few lily pads and the like in it. And it seems to have spontaneously generated a fish. It's just a little bit too hot for this sort of setup here from what he was saying, but if I wanted a pool I'd seriously consider it.
For added neato, the pool is also a heat sink for the solar water heat, if it gets too hot some of the extra heat is diverted into the pool. Doesn't make a big difference to the water temp in the pool though. There's a lot of other really cool tech in the house, including simple things like proper placement on the lot and correctly sized eaves so the windows get sun in the winter and shade in the summer.
That sounds awesome. Europeans understand practical luxury better than most Americans.
Address so I can Google-Creep his property?
Google still shows the house under construction, but search "natural pool design" and you'll get lots of others.
Parents' last house had a pool- was ALWAYS hearing about the problems they had with keeping it clean and working properly. Did definitely enjoy using it in the summer when I visited (ATL area). Would like to have one myself- I LOVE to swim laps- but given I hate yard work I imagine pool work wouldn't be any more fun, and 95% of all residential pools are crap shaped for lap swimming.
I'd far rather get one of those 'infinite' pools to swim 'laps' in- except for the fact that I have this massive phobia of pool drains/grates, and those things are essentially one HUGE grate...
Uh, did Captain Nemo get patio'd? Looks like all his posts are gone. Like everywhere.
In any case, anybody find his username ironic considering the nature of this thread? Sorry Nemo, not trying to pile on, but it is worth a little chuckle, right?
In reply to Matt B:
I figured he got pissed and deleted them, but who knows. I do think some of the posts went a little far. I can totally relate...i don't have a pool, but we had a boat for severals years that we did a lot of work to and never once got it in the water.
Also, I don't even mow my yard, I berkeleying hate yard work and decided I'd rather work on the cars and bikes when I got home from work instead of pain in the ass mowing and weedeating. I have to say I'm glad I never threw out a post about the E36 M3ty job the mower sometimes does on my yard lol.
When you complain that it's too hard to do a job that a highschool dropout can manage, you deserve a little bit of grief.
I ordered no foam in my latte and there's foam!!! Serenity now!!!
edit: I checked some of the other threads he was on, it appears he's been banhammered.

Fire in the hole....err...patio!

Was he complaining it was too hard or he just didn't want to do it? I couldn't go back because the posts are gone, but I thought he was complaining about the work and expense for something that is used very little.
That's where I got with mowing. It was an easy mindless task, but I hated it, needed to buy a better mower as my beater was just wearing down, and everytime I mowed I got to see all the auto projects I'd rather have been working on. I finally decided to hit the easy button and now I get to come home to a fresh cut yard every so often, use my old mower for target practice, and work on my auto projects.

He was complaining that Dave is funny.
In reply to Keith Tanner:
That sounds really cool. I'll have to google that later.
My mother keep threatening to install a pool... but she wants one of those "endless pool" set-ups for swimming, so it wouldn't be very large and would also be completely enclosed for 4-season use.
Of course, I get much of my "project procrastination" trait from her... so who knows when this will happen...
...and Nemo... if they make fun of you it means they like you. They never make fun of me...

Sniff, sniff... now you've gone and hurt my feelings...
Oh, cool... did some GISing for Endless Pools since I'd not done so in a while, and I'd never seen their 'Swim Spa' line before- THAT is something I'd stand a better chance of getting, since the GF would love having a hot tub around as well. Bet they're STUPID expensive though...
man, take one long lunch, and come back to this mess...
Ive never owned a pool, but I feel sensitivity for people with who clean them, as I am a journeyman living among them, and my Girlfriend is pursuing her masters in the field...

Your girlfriend is pursuing a Masters in Pool Boys?
Allow me to throw in a little contrarian perspective.
I’ve got a pool that’s both old and big (thirty years / 41,000 gallons) so I should be approaching a worst case scenario. All up, electricity, chemicals, parts, etc., the pool costs me a little under $1,000 per year and if I didn’t have the pool, there’d be something else in its place that would probably cost me something so let’s say $800 per year.
I do all the work but I really don’t mind as it’s a clean, consistent way to get a little exercise. What I get in return beyond the obvious of having a pool is that it makes our home the hub that our daughter’s friends come to. So, no dropping them off, picking them up, or worrying if everything is OK where they are. Also, the pool has three fountains that produce a wonderful rain like sound that I enjoy year round even if I’m not outside as the master bedroom is in a direct line to them.
So, be my guest, hate on pools all you want but I get a lot of enjoyment out of mine.
BTW, my parents built a pool shortly before my wife and I started having kids. At one point, I noticed they had installed a little grab rail all around the pool just below the water line. I asked, “what’s this for” and my dad said “we’re looking forward to you having kids” and I said, “how did you know we like to have sex in the pool?”
Hehehehe
