A Pi-Hole will change your life.
I'm not surprised Roadkill is leaving Youtube. Motortrend sold some seasons to Netflix a bit back and Youtube has become very hostile towards it's content creators in response to the backlash from advertisers over suicide forest, and general international, incident with that waste of matter and his brother as well as the exploitation of the "Kids" algorithm which potentially exposed children to adult content.
Google has generally refused to moderate content because it's expensive to vet the volume of content submitted and they can't be bothered to improve their Adwords algorithm to include specific channel exclusions. So Google decided that it would focus in on it's content creators which draw eyeballs and thus ads revenue and vet them to make advertisers happy. Everyone else just went by the wayside. (Never mind that allowing channel exclusions in Adwords would both choke out the bad actors and make the advertisers happy. Nah, berkeley that. Viewers love a good train wreck into a cesspool.)
I remember when i discovered that people could make money from Youtube. I was very confused, mostly because I have never, not once in my life, ever read an ad that has popped up on the internet. If I can't close it, I close the page.
However, I have never had the knowledge, or courage, or whatever to sign up for pay service like MTOD. If I knew it would lose the ads and speed stuff up, I would pony up the dough. I fear i will be disappointed.

thanks for for posting this. I am a MTOD subscriber and think it is well worth the few bucks a month for the content. Not a fan of the reality based shows that seem to clog up the channel, but I can easily scroll right past them.

I have no problem with them pulling the free content or doing whatever they see fit. More power to them if they can do it on their own.
Is there a way to watch on the xbone? We usually watch as a family on the only tv in the house.

So, I don't watch the content that has been free, so why would I sign up to pay for it?

I have followed Furby for a very long time, from his hose clamp trans mount 440 swapped Dart during his CC days, through his Bobbed "You'll be keeping this for a very long time" Scrambler days on P4WOR, through Hot Rod, the jump to Car Junky TV, back to Peterson, RK and the rest. His humilty has taken a huge hit since the early days. RK doesn't really do much gor me anymore. I do like Lucky, however, and he has some genuine talent. And Fred on D.E.D. is still the same goofy, enthusiast kid I met on Ultimate Adventure 2004; afraid to move Pewe's Tacoma down the trail "He's the boss! I can't drive his truck!" Speaking of Pewe, he has also never been changed by all he has done over the years, but that is probably also why he has never sought out a larger role in the Motor Trend Video Empire.
I guess i am saying, the biggest hit on MTOD is the one that I enjoy the least nowadays, which is a shame, because he has a great eye, and knows what sells. But I would rather see Dulcich, Pewe, Williams, and Costas. I'll watch sometimes, even with commercials, but I'm really not willing to pay for content, as it presently sits.
Based on Nick's perspective (that paying for Motor Trend on Demand is like buying Freiburger & Finnigan a beer once a month) I went ahead and signed up to pay for the content. I've been pleased with it so far. I like the Junkyard Gold and Roadkill Garage a lot. I'll keep paying as long as they keep producing good original content. Kind of like how I view paying for GRM magazine. gotta support what you love and enjoy.
What I don’t understand is why does Velocity HAVE to become MotorTrend Network?
Velocity started out strong and while they seem to be smothering the channel in copycat throwaway shows, they really could hit us with some better DIY shows and maybe the occasional “car guy” movie or occasional race. I don’t think rebranding the channel is going to make it better. It kind of reminds me of SpeedVision becoming Speed Channel, readjust the programming you have, not rename it in hopes that the plebs will think it’s a new channel. Giving it a “brand name” isn’t going to up the ratings or make it a better quality channel. AFAIC, Motor Trend and quality shouldn’t be in the same sentence, I stopped reading their crap magazine years ago.

On top of all that, my Amazon Firestick won't play anything on MTOD. Even the "Free" episodes come up saying that thry are only available to subscribers.
Never had this problem with YouTube...
Just got done watching Wheeler Dealers from this last week and they had a little ad in the corner of the screen, that said: “You can watch next weeks Wheeler Dealers now on Motor Trend On Demand!”
Nope sorry. I pay for cable so I can watch shows like this when they air. I’m not paying for 10 different streaming sites and apps just to watch the shows I like a week ahead of time. 90% of my shows are on cable and the rest are on the Internet.
Cable TV as it’s current form will be obsolete one day, but it isn’t yet, at least for me. I already have Netflix, Hulu, Prime, and HBO Now. It’s actually starting to become a pain in the ass to remember what platform has what show I watch.

Wait... How far back does Wheeler Dealers go on Motor Trend Channel? Because I'd pay for that for at least a little while.
So an update from me, I actually bought on to MTOD after the switch and have felt that I have easily gotten my money's worth. The live racing is fantastic, and worth it alone IMO. The original programming is very well done, especially JDM Legends and Junkyard Gold. I watch it on a Roku box and through their website.
I'd say at least try the 3-days free thing and give it a fair shake. They won me over.

They have them all, going back to the first season.
The firestick thing would be a problem for me. But maybe I'll do the free trial to feel it out.
I let my buddy use my Netfix account, he lets me use his MTOD account. find a friend, make a trade, everyone wins
I just signed up a week or so ago and watch on the FireTV app. I’m having an odd issue, though. The shows stream just fine during the day, but in the evening, there’s a lot of buffering, a lot of times more time spent waiting than playing video. At first, I assumed maybe it was a problem on my side, but Netflix and PrimeTV work fine. Wondering if they just don’t have the bandwidth for the number of subscribers they have?
In reply to eastsideTim :
I've had buffering problems as well, watching it directly on the site.
In reply to eastsideTim :
That would be my guess. Some of the smaller services underestimate exactly what it takes when a whole raft of people show up to watch your show. Crunchyroll was notorious for that until recently.

I will admit that I'm irritated that JDM Legends just vanished off MToD without an explanation
In reply to The0retical :
If that’s it, I hope they fix the issue soon. I’m liking it enough to pay for it when the trial ends, but would like to not have to catch episodes in the afternoon or wait for the weekend.
I haven't had any problems, watching directly from site, but I'm usually not watching until after the kids are in bed, so after 9:30 or 10:00.
I'm a paying customer and will continue
In reply to NickD :
I noticed that too. I watched the whole season, but was surprised nonetheless
Slightly related -- I got to meet Mike Finnegan on fathers day weekend when his family was seated next to us at a restaurant on Lake Allatoona (north of Atlanta). They seem like great people.
