So as previously alluded to we lost our dear minpin Ricky recently. Ricky was a wild little dog, we called him the MaxPin because when he came to us he weighed in at 22lbs. We eventually slimmed him down a bit but then he started to slim down alot more on his own and thats when we discovered he had diabetes. We did our best, better diet, daily insulin shots but he did eventually loose his sight. That never slowed him down, he caught his first rabbit after he went blind. He learned that he'd never be faster, but he could be smarter (a good lesson for all of us) In the last 9 months he started loosing muscle mass at an alarming rate. The vet attributed it to cushings disease brought on by a brain tumor. At 11 years old and with all his other health problems I couldnt put him through chemo so we just made him comfortable and rode it out. He couldnt really walk anymore due to the lack of muscle tissue and finally the tumor took over and he succumbed to dimentia. A blind dog who cant walk and doesnt know where he is or even who he is anymore was just terribly sad to see and we had no choce but to let him go.

He was one of the first dogs my wife and I got when we met, wifey chose the min pin and I the shar pei. I forever harrassed her about how "her" dog was a hyperactive rat, and other jabs but the truth is he had a personality bigger than imaginable and he worked harder than any other animal Ive ever known to meet with my approval. He became a very special part of my life and although I love all my dogs my life was indescribably empty without him, I never thought I could be so profoundly affected by an animal.

I had planned to give things some time but nothing seemed right around here and after talking with some folks and being referred to a local rescue for boston terriers which just happened to have a min pin in need of a home I caved and decided to meet the little guy. I though it was kind of interesting that he was found roaming a rest area in the south as I've spent alot of time in rest areas in the south on BABE and other adventures. His foster mom warned that he was pretty attached to her so he might not take to us right away but within 5 minutes of coming in the house he had planted himself firmly in my lap and just hasnt left. He's adjusting well to the other dogs and is doing his best to let me know that I'm his person and he likes it that way.

Old friends will always be remembered, but new friends are always welcome, so please say hello to my new friend Bing (wife named him)

Naming a dog after a carburetor is not going to create an issues around here.

Weber would be cool, although I might stay away from Stromburg (unless its a rather unpleasant / unruly dog)

Congrats! A new dog in the house is like your 8th birthday all over...takes you right back to Grade school!

My wife and I are looking into adopting too...we already have our black and white Husky named "Bandit", and we are looking at Boston Terriers. Perhaps "Smokey" will be our new addition

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, it's never easy. BUT OTH I'm glad to see you've found a new friend, he'd have prob wanted it that way. It's truely amazing how the significant other's "buddy" can become yours, our last rescue was for my wife, but he is solidly my buddy, sits in the seat of the car while I'm working on it, and is in my lap anytime I'm not up and moving, if I'm up and moving, well lets just say he's not gonna be left behind. This is bandit, our last rescue. His former Dad went to jail, and didn't let anyone know to take care of him, his ex found him a week later locked in the bedroom of his apartment with no food or water. Hence the skin and bones appearance and the fur falling off his butt. We've since addressed those issues, he's a very happy, active hunting Rattie. Also here lately been my wrenching pal, as previously mentioned.

Oh and well met BING!

Stupid show "Friends" Pheobe is one of the characters, another is named Chandler, no way she's namin the dog Chandler, so his last name is Bing. I rolled with it 'cause I can just say its for Bing Crosby who is infinitely cooler than any sitcom character.
