She refuses Oxy after the last surgery, she has some really wicked trips, including indians, campfires and teepees, in her hospital room. I had to talk her through it. She went without pain meds after that, which was a bad idea also.
That stuff has severe side affects
I am glad everyting is going well so far. Keep us posted and maybe someone can make a Great Lakes run for you.

Some of the pain meds they give out are pretty crazy and can make people go loopy. I remember one time when my grandmother was in the hospital, they gave her something real heavy duty, and we went to visit her. She was having a conversation with a bunch of people that had been dead for 20+ years like they were right there in the room with me, my dad, and my mom. Scary stuff.

Mayo clinic is the biggest pile of bullE36 M3 on the planet. They have a REALLY glossy veneer, but I know for a fact there's a lot more to that place than meets the eye. I won't go there. You're a lot better off where you are right now.
The one and only bad thing from my surgery was that they gave me Oxy afterwards. I went nuts, tried to pull out the catheter, and don't forget projectile vomiting. People take that stuff for FUN??
I'm glad the scary waiting is over. You've still got to wait some more and worry some more, but it's on a lesser scale and more easily handled.
I understand about the side effects of the pain medicine. One year I saw floating pink elephants with human butts. That scared me more than anything else because it was proof to me something wasn't right and because I was home & alone and everyone was out of touch, there was nothing I could do about it.
Hopefully your wife can find a balance between the pain and the meds.

Just found this thread, and read it all the way through. (I didn't cheat by peeking to see how it worked out, honest.) I'm glad everything went well in the OR! Now that you have a bit of time to decompress, the 300-page build thread idea sounded like a good one. Lengthy distraction FTW.

So glad the surgery is over and went well. Yes, my wife had some severe reactions to the oxycodone as well, we will never use that stuff again. If regular Tylenol won't cut it, we'll just tough it out. Very glad for you, hang in there, we're all on board with you.
We were told 7 to 10 days John. I will escape Sunday to do some paperwork at the Compound but returning Monday.

My daughter (now 13) had her 4th open heart procedure this past March. The Doctors said the surgery would take about 5 hours....when hours 6 and 7 rolled by my wife and I started to flip a little but everything was cool once we got the "all's good" phone call. Daughter came out fine and we were all home after about 3 and a half days. This past Monday she was in the swimming pool doing laps with a great big smile on her face. Doctors can do some amazing things. All the best.

My brother had a heart valve repaired (not replaced) arthroscopically instead of open heart surgery at Duke several years ago. He didn't want a pig valve because he would have had to have it replaced based on his age. Duke was the only place nearby that would repair. Several hours after the surgery, they had him up walking the halls. He did not enjoy that at all. He did not decline his pain meds.
Ugh, I've been on Oxy and other class 3 painkillers before. I hate em. The dreams and E36 M3 aren't so big for me, it's the berkeleying dependency. You're on that E36 M3 for 3 days and your body is already craving it constantly. I'd rather quit smoking than deal with coming off opioid painkillers.
Our son had to have open heart surgery at 4 months old. We brought him to Boston Childrens Hospital on Monday. They operated Tuesday. And he came home on Saturday just in time for my wifes first Moersday. Modern science is amazing.
