I'm starting a 1/6 scale Harley Electra Glide tonight. It even came in black (same color as my bike) so no painting required. It's 90% plastic but the tank, fenders and some other major parts are diecast.

Have epic want for the 1/12th Tamiya Lotus 7 masters kit.. found out its >$400 
I think I will put my money away to build a 1:1, after I put money away for having a garage.
About %50 done with a miata kit though.
