So iv had the canon 70D for about 2.5 years and on Christmas morning it froze gave me a err 80 code and wont power back up. So its been a few days and keep trying the camera, put the battery in and nothing. Today I put my 18-135mm STM lens on the camera and I noticed that the view finder got when the battery was installed. I also noticed that with the camera was switch on I was able to manual focus the lens. The STM lens is servo driven so you shouldn't be able to focuses if it was not getting power.
After the camera first quit I did some looking at it looks like the main PCB board is fried from what other people with the same issues have said. It would be a $450 fix so almost as much as guying another used body.
So i would love to hear you guys thoughts on the issue and if anyone has had the same issue.
If I can't get this body fixed I will probably upgrade to the 5D mark iv so I might open up the 70d and see if I can see any issue where the PCB might have been getting hot or something like that. I work at a place where we build some PCBs and stuff like that so some of my coworkers know a bit about electrical engineering so maybe they can find something.
Anyway im very sad either way and need to figure out something I feel so wrong being without a DSLR.
