Ya know, just saying...

Some clear glasses like motorcycle riders wear can be handy at night. Even though you are behind the windshield, if you are tall like me the glasses are welcome relief.

Still sounds like an awesome trip.

I assume you may be coming across I-70 through Missouri. If you need a stop or any assistance in Columbia (midway between KC and STL), give me a holler. I'll pm a number.

How do you do fly and drives as far as getting a licence plate or temp plate? I'm sure this has been covered but I am curious because I am thinking about doing the same thing for a zoom, zoom. I'm sure this depends greatly on where you live but just looking for a general idea.

These thing vary from state to state but are not difficult in most states. This website may lead you to some answers for each state.

Depends, getting something from CA is pretty easy because the plate generally stays on the car and you as the buyer have 30 days to re-register it. NV for example has the seller keep the plate and you have to get a 'movement permit' (aka a temp tag).

Hopefully the FM kiddies can get the boost and idle worked out. The headlight bit may be a little over their heads

Glad you are +1 in the "Cars you now own" category. Looking forward to the pics from the road trip.

In most states you've got one of three options. You can get a temp plate, or the plate stays with the car (like this situation), or you can drive back with NO plate within a certain time period.

Well... we actually couldn't get the headlight fixed.

I'll get pics up soon, i promise. I've got about 350 to sort through and process, which is why it's taking so long.

The boost and idle were fixed while at CO.

However, because it's an old Hydra 2.5, the idle is all berkeleyed up again now that i'm at sea level. And i'm not sure what the cause is just yet, but there's some weird voltage things going on as well.

More detailed thread to follow on problems with the car. (i'm not as psyched as i once was about the car, but it's a solid starting point, so i won't bitch too much)

Oh yeah, the car made 245whp/238wtq on FM's dyno on 91 octane. I think there's quite a bit of headroom to go, especially on the better fuel out here. Thinking of going over to E85.

First order of business is figuring out electrical stuff, tires, then suspension though.

The last time I did this, Nov '09 with an E30, we agreed to a price, money was sent, owner mailed me the title.

I took the title and insurance (got insured before I left) to the tag office and flew to the East Coast with a license plate and valid insurance.

This is what i wanted to do, but my state won't register an out of state car without a visual VIN inspection.

^Yeah, I had to take the car to them when I got it back in the state before they would begin the title work, but they did let me register/tag it before I left.

Same here in NV - you either need the movement permit (temp tag) or the inspection confirmation from a shop authorised to carry out these inspections.

Yep, i'm not real worried about it! And the cool thing is that since it's a toy... if i get pissed at it, i can just leave it alone and come back to it in a few months if i choose.

But there's a list of things that need to be addressed beyond the electrical wierdness lol.

1) New passenger headlight
2) Undertray panel needs to be replaced (gone for some reason)
3) Needs some PDR love
4) Front lip needs some major work/replaced
5) Horrible aftermarket cruise control install needs to be ripped out

I took my undertray off once. Drove around without for a week or two, then put it back on. Seemed like a more frustrating job than it should've been. Not sure why but that thing is held on with enough fasteners that one could proballay hang the car upside down from the silly plastic undertray.

Did it seem to affect cooling capacity? If it doesn't matter, then i'll just leave it off. Mazda wants just about $240 for one. For that price, i'll just get a fancy aluminum dealie down the road.

Cross your fingers for me. I seem to have already found a hardtop. You know... because that's the proper order of things.

HARDTOP BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE.

My current Miata hasn't had the undertray since I bought it, no problems so far. It does still have the plastic air deflector from the bumper to the radiator but not the one under the engine.

Eventually I will get/make a skidplate for it since the steering rack scoops up all the dirt and grass at rallycrosses.

I lost an undertray from my corolla, it just ran insanely cool. Great in the July heat, but terrible mid January in Ohio

Oh hrmm... i should check to see if we've got the deflector from bumper to radiator.

If not, looks like time for a good-win "scoop?"

I don't have the undertray on my stock '91 Miata. I have only put the heat on (for extra cooling) twice since I got it in March. Mostly because the needle on the temp gauge went past straight up and there's no red. Just to be on the safe side.

Of course mine has only 115 hp, 20 years ago; it might not affect mine as much.

Haven't had any luck in getting a stock undertray, so i think i'm just going to get the Cobalt or Beatrush unit for the same price or cheaper and call it a day.

Anyone using the Good-Win radiator "scoop?" Looks like a neat piece.

I would like to hear how the aluminum undertray is. I am thinking about one but I am not sure it would be substantial enough to actually function as a skidplate.
