Sperlo, how do you carry a full frame 1911 concealed? My usual carry is around the size of a Walther .380.
Its not a 1911, but a Ruger P345. Its actually more of a block shape. I'll post a picture later of how I wear it, but there is a specific universal holster I sell the E36 M3 out of. It works best tucked in the back of your pants. I'll post a picture of that, too. With a jacket, I can shoulder holster it without a problem and with a baggy shirt, I can side holster. I'm comfortable with all of them. The only time I cant is when I'm dressed up.

Sorry to be the messenger, but it seemed like something you should know. From what I've read, Springfield has been making the fixes pretty quickly.
Being the messenger in a handgun thread is perilous to say the least.
I have held my CCW for 7 years. I have carried a Glock G19 for that time, but as I drive for a living the width of the Glock is getting old.
Went looking for a slimmer firearm and was very pleased with this XD-S
This is relevant to my interests.
Once I start towing to events I want to get my CCW and a weapon since there will be a lot of time driving in the middle of nowhere and with stuff someone might want to steal.

I have recently become very curious how the width of the G36 (??, the single stack Glock 45) compares. I can't look up that sort of thing at work.

Check your state laws. This may be possible without a CCW as long as you don't take it out of the vehicle. You would be fine in Missouri. Don't cross the eastern border, though...
Although, this is what I found for OK:

It is unlawful to carry a loaded firearm in a vehicle, though there are some exceptions for firearms carried by those with a concealed carry license.

check your laws, Tx allows an otherwise non permitted person to concealed carry when "traveling". generally considered a non-routine (i.e. not your daily commute) trip that at least crosses county lines.
then there's also the castle doctrine extending to your vehicle..
Yeah, in OK the gun and the ammunition can't be in the "same compartment" from what I understand.
Gun unloaded in the glove box, ammo in trunk would be acceptable.
In reply to z31maniac:
That's how I read it. These laws are constantly changing, but I always suggest a CCW. You can never do too much to stay in compliance with laws.

The G36 is about the same size as the G17.

All Glocks are the same size in width, and as I am sitting all the time this is what made me seek a narrower firearm.
This XD-S is about 2/3 of the width of the Glock, note I have not used a tape.
My best friend has been looking at the Taurus Slim's. They are very narrow as well and since he has a small frame it's something he could easily conceal.

Bobzilla - did your best friend look at the Shield? Have him at least handle it.
yEAH, he doesn't like the feel of the Shield. I suggest it as well. He likes the feel of the Kahr, but does not like the lack of an external safety. We were at the local large gunshow two weekends ago and pretty much had hands on EVERYTHING.

I am 85% sure the single stack Glock 45 is thinner than the double stack 9 and 40 but I have no data here to reference. Either way, I am glad you have something comfortable.
I carry a Glock 20. If a 9mm can't stop it, you need to step up to real power. If a 10mm can't kill it, you need a rifle.

It's about the same size as a Glock 19/23.
All glock 9/40 frames (models 17,19,22,23,26,27) are the same width. The only thing that changes are the grip length (magazine size) and barrel length. Same goes for the 45/10mm frames (models 20,21,29,30). The model 36 is a 45cal is the only single stack made and is different from all others.

I carry a .32. It's because my penis is so small, I don't want it to feel jealous.

^ And I am not a glock guy. Just can't get the feel. I think it's the grip angle difference between what is "right" for me (1911) and the Glock. That and the absolutely square feeling grip.
Check out some of the beaver tail backstraps for the gen4 glocks. Many of them change the grip angle to be more 1911ish

The G36 is 1.13" and the XDS is 1" wide, the rest of the Glock lineup is 1.18" wide. Not a huge spread and I suspect it's more a matter of feel than actual width.
OK, this is a minor thread revival.... but I had to share this. A pair of J.M. Browning's finest. Both with a minor update to be "relevant" in today's world:
Jealous, I haven't bought any guns in over a year.... I havent sold any either so not all bad.
I'm seriously considering selling the motorcycle to fill up the new safe. It's a hard decision considering I've had the bike since 1998.
Also, neither of these are "new". The Rem my father has had since before I was born. I got it in trade for rebuilding his Tahoe's engine. The mods I made are all me. The Springer I purchased last Ocotober ('12).
