First update from the nurse. He went under great and everything is going well so far.
Edit: I'll save the Six Million Dollar Man memes until he's in post-op, but I'm glad things are going well!

Awesome!
Glad to hear it! Here's to a speedy recovery and improved self-image!
I'd be nervous if it were my kid for sure, but it's amazing how much of this stuff is routine..
When my niece was born as a twin preemie, she had that issue where the trach and esophagus have a hole between them. She had surgery when she was (I think?) 3 weeks old. So, like, -1 week old from projected birth date. My sister was all freaked out, and we were all offering our sympathy and well wishes of course. After we got off the phone, my speech-pathologist wife (who moments ago was acting just as psyched out as my sister and being a perfect model of a comforting sister-in-law) just calmly said "Oh yeah, no worries. This is as routine as you could ever do on a 3 week old. They do this multiple times a month over there."
It's all a matter of perspective, I guess?

This is truly fantastic news. We have been thinking of you and your family throughout the day.
In reply to Nick Comstock :
Great. Hope recovery goes well without a lot of pain. Hope he gets lots and lots of ice cream even if that's a tonsils thing. All kids need more ice cream. Hell adults also.
In reply to Stampie :
He's a tough kid. He once broke his arm and barely complained. But he's in real pain right now. I'm pretty sure the most pain he's ever experienced They said the first night is the toughest. We'll get him through.
So something funny happened. He was on his bed in the hallway while they were getting his room ready. They had placed a towel around his head over his eyes so he wasn't staring right at the lights. He was still groggy and crying from the pain when all of a sudden he screamed out "somebody get this dumb ass hat off my head!!!" We all got a good chuckle out of that.
In reply to Nick Comstock :
That's the part that would hurt me the most. Hope it goes quickly for him.
Damn.
We'll keep praying. But for quick pain reduction and healing.
I'm relieved to hear he made it through ok.
Great news that the surgery went well. Let him (and his parents) know that there are a whole bunch of people sitting close by tonight and sending even more healing vibes. Tomorrow is a whole new better day.
