The fig trees and dogwood are planted and watered. A line of cold-hearty rosemary along the front of the porch. The Boxster is on jackstands, but my (youngest) daughter decided to take a Cayenne to Dallas instead, so I have been checking fluids and cleaning my junk out of the back.

After lunch I'm hoping for a quiet afternoon to finish up the brakes and plugs. I gave my approval on the Civic deal and passed on your advice. If everything works out, he'll stop by here on Sunday with his 'new' car and drop off the Corolla for me to prep for sale. Maybe my daughter will take it as a Gastropod, but more likely it will find a new family.

When I hear VW and Honda but a lack of interest in modern Hyundai's, I hear 'perception and image' winning out over facts and reality.  Not judging, we're all guilty of it.  Just see my JL/Towing thread for proof, I'm just as guilty.

Yes, Hyundai/Kia are great value in point A to point B transportation.  I owned my '13 Elantra from 59k miles to about 130k miles and never needed anything more than oil changes, brakes, tires type stuff.  The back seat was way bigger than any compact car should have, it was huge.  It was quiet, comfy for long drives and got great gas mileage.  Not "fun" to drive, but if you don't care then it's great.  I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

He's 30, I would let and encourage him make his own decisions.

The way I handled my 27 yo daughter's last car purchase was to tell her the brands I would not help her repair. All other research was on her. I also recommended she pay cash, which she did.

My 30 yo son knows he's pretty much on his own, but he also has similar opinions on cars as I do.

Small - Civic, Corolla, Golf/Jetta, Elantra, Mazda3, Etc.

Basically anything that isn't a performance variation of a basic A to B car, cant go wrong with

Yes, good point. While my kids were growing up, I was gone, chasing cheap rum and adventure. When I retired from the military, 2 of 3 were already young adults. That's when I started parenting them, and I still do a bit too much to make up for the past. They can all handle life quite well. They may in fact be asking my advice just to make me feel good.

I almost have the spark plugs and spark plug tubes done now. They are shopping around now which makes me happy. Not committing to the Civic. Currently looking at a pair of 2017 off-rental Sonatas. They have under 50k miles and are around $12K.

I'm guessing this: https://www.southpointcjd.com/inventory/used-2017-hyundai-sonata-2-4l-front-wheel-drive-sedan-5npe24af6hh591539

and this: https://www.southpointehonda.com/details/?vin=5NPE24AF8HH528362

Deal?

I think it's done. A higher optioned 2015 Civic EX. Paperwork in progress now.

Did I need to be involved and ask all of you for advice? No, but I feel better that it was done that way. Thanks for all your comments.

Time to take the Boxster off the jack stands and take it for a drive.

The -15 Civic is an absolutely awful car compared to the -16. Honda was NOT fooling around with that redesign; a ten-minute look around the underside shows that they went from "cheaped out junk for broke Americans" to "we're in the business of building Hondas again".
