Well, my apocoplypse vehicle bit the dust. I bought it (87 Ramcharger) four months ago for $400.00. Spent another $600 on parts, plates, insurance, tools, paint, and labor on one occasion. It had a nasty fuel leak under the hood, which I repaired. Then I replaced the pump. Once the line was fully pressurized, it blew beneath the truck. Not a difficult fix, but...
I had replaced the struts for the rear door, which actually hastened the disintegration of the connection between the fiberglass door and the steel car. Both hinges broke while I was on my last of six visits to the county yard waste dump. It latched back on for safe travel back home.
So, every couple of days I start it, and I did today, and the carb caught fire with flames shooting out and it wont start. I had figured maybe there was a problem due to fuel starvation related to the leak, but there may also be a problem with a leak around the manifold and who knows what else.
Who knows, I'm done with this experiment. Rig has some nice parts though. I'm going to try to sell it for what I bought it for. I may be moving to DC. If I don't, I feel something very different coming on. It was fun while it lasted, and earned some of its keep hauling things. I also drove it across the state to go off-roading. It made the trip and did pretty well, it just took all it had left I guess.
