NOTE: The R&D process is well documented, but each version requires lots of time and tweaking.

Maintenance cost is prohibitive. I've had two 1/2 HP Liftmasters in daily use for going on 8 years and I've only had to replace one circuit board for about $70. Never had one scream at me or throw anything either.

So how do the Liftmasters compare to say Genie or Sears/Chamberlain? Belt, chain or screw? I need to get one and the only opener I've bought in the past 20 years was a Wayne Dalton iDrive, and they discontinued those.

I just bought a Chamberlain with a belt drive. It is great.
