Let me save you the bother. X5 diesels are the serious suck. To the point that my friend who's a BMW service writer told me emphatically to not even think about getting one.
That's how I ended up with the Cayenne diesel, which has been pretty much bomb proof reliable, plus has the monster warranty.

Funny. My very trusted BMW mechanic, who I've used for 10+ years with all my BMWs and Porsches, adores them. So much so that his wife has been driving one for 7+ years now.
