Even if the cops don't the insurance company should. 

I'massuming that there exists a photo showing the complete license plate?

So wait..  you mean to tell me there was a automotive mystery posted on this website and out of the literally thousands of possible car types it could have been the legit answer was a Kia Rondo.  The literal Dacia Sandero of the GRM community.   I can't handle this. It's all down hill from here.

Unreal.  From "here's some random broken plastic left by a hit and run driver" to "here's the car they came from" in less than 3 pages.  Nobody berkeleys with the GRM, indeed.

I've always said never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.    So, smart people in small numbers is just damn amazing.

Yup, that's the big question. My neighbor across the street drunkenly destroyed my mailbox (and the front of her car) one night. I called the cops, showed them the destroyed mailbox and scattered car parts, then walked them over to the thrashed car which was minus a chunk of front end but somehow had streaks of paint on it the color of my mailbox pole. We played puzzle time with the parts that were littered around my front yard and they fit the damaged car. She refused to come out, so they impounded her car on the spot for hit & run and fleeing an accident. Cost her a couple hundred dollars to get the car out of impound. She never apologized or paid to repair the mailbox, but karma was served.

 I had a car totaled years ago and I found the culprit parked across the apartment complex i lived in at the time. Handed the cops a box of parts, showed them how they fit up with the damaged car, and they said it didn't prove anything. Refused to run the tag or help me get the insurance info of the car owner.

So it all depends on if the local PD gives a damn.

I made the mistake one day about 25 years ago of leaving the keys in a customers Volvo 144 outside the shop.  When I realized it was gone, I called the cops.  They refused to take any info, because I wasn't the registered owner.  Get that fixed, rent the owner a car, waitwaitwait.  Phone the cops to see whether anything is happening.  No clue what I'm talking about.  Finally, about five days after the theft, I find somebody who knows something, and he tells me it hit a fence on 29th and Avenue J.  Ok, I know most of these thefts are deadbeats looking for a ride home, so I figure I'll drive from 23rd and C up towards 29th and J...and the car is sitting on the street, across from the fence it hit...

Property crime means absolutely nothing to the local cops.
