Texas defense attorneys and presiding judge have discovered a new disease …

It's good to be rich, apparently. Though to be fair- there's a nugget of truth there, I know so many rich kids that never learn a damn thing because mommy and daddy always bail them out.

Wow, and so the pussification continues

I'm thinking that if he got actual prison time for killing those pedestrians … then he might then learn a few things ..

but as was pointed out on another thread …

if the defense is that his parents didn't bother to teach him that just because he's rich, doesn't excuse him from obeying the law … then maybe they need to do the prison time

cliff notes: he is a 16 yo kid … stole some beer … got drunk (3x the legal limit) and plowed into some people on the side of the road

the defense attorney claimed he should be held blameless because his parents didn't teach him that he had to behave in the same manner that "lesser" people had to

said that it is a condition he called "affluenza"

the judge agreed with him

I can't even properly handle this.

Oh for berkeley's sake. And disadvantaged kids who commit the same crime can claim they had no parents to teach them? Right, didn't think so...

Yeah. And in Texas yet where they take that REAL serious, as in "Someone died, someone's goin' to jail." Period. But not if your momma can afford a half million a year for rehab, huh?

Will the kid be less of a drain on society after rehab or a stint in prison?

somewhere in there is a joke about one percenters and minimum wage...but I can't find it right now.

...and people tried to convince me that Ohio sucks. Texas is the worst!

Wait, wat? That is utterly preposterous. Are they TRYING to start a class war?

WTF, and you can't be tried for the same crime twice. WTberkeley. I hope all the families of the victims sue the families ass into the poor house in civil court for compensation of wrongful death.

What is the process of getting a judge thrown off the bench in TexASS ??

To be honest, he probably would have only spent 2 years in prison out of the 20yr term.......and the 10yr probation is probably hoping he berkeleys up after he turns 18......and for this occurance, I greatly support civil lawsuits.

Are judges elected in Texass? I'd like to know who contributes to his campaign .

I think I know of an effective treatment for affluenza. Extended civil suit therapy sessions until all the affluenza is melted away.

Ok so if it is the parents fault that he is the way he is then they both should go to jail and there assets divided amongst the victims. I think that this would be a much better way to handle it.

I know I would be licking my chops if I was a lawyer for any / or all of the victims families as a judge has already determined that it is the parents fault and that makes following the money all that much easier.
