Autobahn and Monticello are also much closer to population centers where you can expect there to be clientele to take part in such high dollar fun and games. This location is in BFE, and if you count Miami, I'll just point out the yachts and speedboats are the flashpoint to show off there, or just cruising south beach in your exotic. I imagine the draw of dropping $30k a year in dues, tires, fuel, maintenance on racing isn't as attractive as it is on other activities. Especially when if you wanted to drop that much a year on racing you could still opt to run Sebring, Daytona, Palm Beach, Road Atlanta, Roebling Road, The Firm or Homestead with various groups. I don't think that you're going to attract high end members with those facilities, not to mention AMP, within the region. I think the angle to take is a school and training facility with lower cost for usage and a tire supplier tie in. Bonus points if an automotive focused maker space was included in the plans, but I don't think the population density would support that undertaking.

I want to open the US 'Ring. No memberships, no clubhouse, nothing fancier than a parking lot and a toll booth. Sign the waiver, pay your $20, and go. You crash, that's on you. I'll charge you extra to use my tow truck and ambulance. You die in a crash, I'll throw oil-dry on the track to absorb your blood at no cost to your family because I am a nice guy. Hey, for $20, what do you want?

I often get invitations from Monticello to try their facility.

Kind of out of my price range.

If you get the chance to try it out including a ride along of the track with their instructor Chris Duppliesis, it's worth it just for the ride along. He's one of the top 5 drivers that I've ever ridden with.

If I've done my math correctly, we only need 1,000 people to cough up $10,000. Certainly this is not undoable. I'll pitch in whatever I can. Really we only need enough for a down payment, right? I'm in for whatever needs to be done. Been thinking about moving to Fla, so this would be perfect.

I wonder what the maintenance costs would be that type of facility. Assuming a sinkhole doesn't open up and swallow half the track. It is Florida after all.

Here's another plot twist. The fine folks that run the ECTA (East Coast Timing Association) are currently searching for a new land speed racing venue. I'm guessing the airstrip probably isn't long enough, but you could add on. If someone were smart enough, get some people from the SCCA, NASA, ECTA, and anyone else that wants a secure venue to be involved and help. 5 companies at $2 mill a piece. Easy enough. Or if the right GRM'er would win Powerball, that would be good, too.

I dont know about that area, but where i live in bfe ohio 400 acres of tillable farm ground would be $4-5 million, so i dont see that price being too far out of line.

The problem i see is the cost of fighting court cases when over confident and undertalented yahoos hurt themselves in a crash and feel you owe them a couple million in pain and suffering.

ECTA has been using Airborne Airpark in Wilmington, OH the past few years. Before that, Maxton Airport was the sight to race on. Airborne's longest runway is 10,000 ft and Maxton's longest is 6500 ft. Two miles of racing surface would be way more than enough.
