Tom's post the other day that the track requires a Snell-2010 or newer helmet, means I need to get a new one before the Challenge.
I have a $10 head, so I've always bought the cheap HJC open face M-rated helmets, but I'm not finding them with a 2015 rating. Does anyone offer a sub-$100 open face Snell rated helmet in size small? If so, I'm not finding one.

I don't think you can get anything new that's Snell rated for even twice that money, sounds like you need to buy used (or at least old-stock).
A basic-model Pyrotect Pro Sport is a little more than twice what you're looking to spend.
In reply to GameboyRMH :
Keep in mind I only need M-rated, not SA. I actually found an SA-rated open-face helmet for $139 new, though not in my size. That makes me think there should be cheaper M-rated helmets somewhere.
I was just going to say I paid about $130 for my racequip SA2015 last year, but it took 3 months to get to me.
We'll have helmets available at the challenge if you don't want to pony up for a new one. Otherwise check out these nice GRM advertisers-- they all make quality helmets at very reasonable prices. I'd recommend trying them on before buying if possible.

Just got a new SA2015 open face last week for my bday. Kids bought it for me so I went with the cheaper one that they could afford. Amazon has several close to that. Got a Conquer open face for less than $140. There's a slightly better on for about 170.
Ok, thanks for the suggestions. I was just hoping I could stick with HJC since I know they fit & are cheap, but apparently they don't have M2105 open face helmets available. Other than one local motorcycle shop there isn't any place nearby to try them on.

Any motorcycle helmet in that price range is going be DOT rated, not Snell.
Should have good choices in the $180-$200 range though.
Here's the logic I used when I got myself an SA2015 last year, which might convince you to spend way more money: Think about a helmet purchase in terms of dollars per year of service. You can expect a Snell 2010 or 2015 helmet to be competition-legal for at least 10 years from its specification date. So let's say they'll run out at the end of 2020 and 2025 respectively. If you spend $100 on a 2010 right now, that's $25 a year at this point. If you spend $220 on a 2015, that's $24.40/yr.
In reply to GameboyRMH :
Yes, at this point finding a 2015 helmet makes sense. Sadly HJC doesn't seem to offer their open face models with that 2015 certification, so I'll just have to shop around to find the next cheapest one.

Let me know what you come up with. I need a cheap brain bucket as well.

Same here... I think my helmet is older than 2010 to start with.
The helmet I bought last year based on the dollars-per-year equation was an SA2015 Pyrotect Pro Sport full-face duckbill. Don't try to save money by installing your own HANS mounts, I tried, it costs the same.

So far this one is the cheapest I'm finding with any kind of Snell rating, and it's actually SA rated, though I still need to hit the GRM advertisers sites and see what they have to offer.

That is the exact one I just got. Except I got it from Amazon. Amazon link

Do you guys ever run into counterfeit Snell stickered helmets in that price range, or are they seemingly genuine? From my older two wheeler days, I saw alot of sketchy looking (supposedly) Snell stickered helmets in the low $100's range.

We have three of those in different sizes. They work, they are reasonably comfortable and cheap.
If you get one of the ones Toyman mentions, go for a size larger than you think you will need. I've found that they ran small.
In reply to Toymanswife :
I measured 21.5" which was in the middle of their Small-size range(and also what size my previous HJCs have been). Do you think I should go for a Medium anyway?
In reply to Pete Gossett :
I measured on the upper end of the medium size and went with the medium and ended up going back and getting a large and my daughter is wearing the medium. Now SOME of that is because I wear glasses and the padding was hurting where they were. I'd still order a medium if I were you.
In reply to Toymanswife :
Thanks!
I've got an XXL HJC and a large Bell, both full face and both fit about the same. I wouldn't buy a helmet I couldn't try on first, although some of the online pricing is enticing.
I've been reading the NHRA rules and any car slower than 13.99 doesn't require a helmet, from what I'm seeing. Anyone know any different?
In reply to DeadSkunk :
My understanding is the rule is specific to the Gainesville track.
