I would buy the FCC jeep today

In reply to HappyAndy: I agree. Wasn't that one called the Brute?
As far as the newer concepts, not everything works as a restyled uber retro mobile. That fad has died out I'm afraid.
Detroit, it's time to move on.
I want to take that FC concept, put a drop-in camper shell on it, and live in it for 3 months out of the year while I attempt to take it to every part of north america that it can access (I'd imagine this will only take a thousand years, give or take).
I also love the FC. I think it would be a perfect production truck with a couple changes:
1) bring the bed's drop sides up to the window belt line.
2) add a pull out tray to the storage area under the bed.
I assume automatically for the thing to be built, it would lose the portal axles, and the other expensive looking stuff.
After being around my wife's Jeep the last few years, I've come away with a respect for them. The FC with a diesel, or some other efficient engine would be my kind of truck.

If I read the Allpar link right, Mopar offers a kit to convert your Jeep to a pickup, the Gladiator is just a body package to change the look.
And I prefer the red one. Especially with plaid seats.
This is one of those threads that I normally don't click on. Jeeps just don't do it for me.
That FC, however; the FC is just great. What a cool truck. Like nothing else modern on the road.

As Iceracer mentioned, the Ram Guys didn't want Jeep to have a pickup, but that's not the main reason the Gladiator hasn't made it to production. Marchionne loved the concept, and basically told the Ram division that he didn't care what they thought. He wanted it built.
Being based on the JK platform, the logical place to build it would be the JK line in Toledo, which was designed from the outset to accomodate a third variant of that platform.
Problem is, with the 2012 model getting the Penta-Star engine, and Fiat pushing the Jeep brand into markets where Chrysler never really had a presence, there is currently no additional production capacity to allow that to happen.
Right now, incoming orders are averaging about 120 more Wranglers per day than what can be built.
Hence the Mopar conversion kit... But it's a bit more complex conversion than being "just a body package to change the look".

I don't care that I just bought a car a month ago, I'd buy an FC tomorrow. On portals even. Mother of god.
The Jeep seems such an easy chassis to modify, they should have Scrambler, pickup, sedan, 2-door and lots of other versions!

They have reduction gearboxes at the hubs. Typically, these boxes offset the hub center down from the diff center, thus you get gear reduction, lift, and diff clearance, all in one.

That is cool. Never heard of them before.
In reply to 93EXCivic:
they're like the holy grail of the mud truck, right after 44" boggers i guess
