Apparently, you can submit Lego kit ideas to Lego and generate support in an attempt to get them approved. For example, the Lego Caterham Super Seven was approved and will be out some time this year.
There is a new Fiat 500 kit idea looking for votes. It looks like a really cool kit. I'd really like it if you could get the kits in different colors.

They need to make a Lego McLaren f1 to go along with the Lego f40 and gt3.
