JFAC = meh, drummer is good, but it's a bit too chaotic. When one of their songs actually does get some kind of groove, albeit a fast one, they are kicking. But alot of it is just craziness. Unfurling a Darkened Gospel is my favorite song on the record.

I love Lamb of God, just saw them live with GWAR a few months back. They were AMAZING live.

And I'm a HUGE TBDM fan, can't wait til they come through Tulsa on support for the new album.

Meh. Buddy Guy may be good, but he's still just another example of Average White Guy Blues. There's a lot more to it than that. From there, either go to the (unamplified) Delta, or get off guitar-based blues altogether and check out what cats did playing harmonica, etc. Or, (my personal favorite) dive into some jump blues... blues that swings. Grab some Big Joe Turner for a good primer there.

And don't bother listening to anything recorded after 1960. It will just sound like what you're already bored with.

You have to watch that Buddy Guy vid to see why posted it. It wasn't for Buddy Guy. I agree. So much really bad, watered down blues out there. I like some of the later Muddy waters too. Hard again was his 'comeback' album, and it really was pretty good.

I'd recommend all De La Soul up to and including Stakes is High. Also, Hieroglyphics/Del the Funky Homosapien; not "happy" or whatever, but a little more intelligent than "shake your ass, buy clothes, shoot people." The 3rd eye vision record is absolute berkeleying genius. The Kool Keith and Dr. Octogon records are phenomenal, but maybe an acquired taste. IMO, Gran Puba is one of the most underrated rappers of all time. Listen to the "2000" record and tell me I'm wrong. The GZA/Genius's Liquid Swords record is also one of my favorites of all time, as is Old Dirty Bastard's 'Return to the 36 Chambers.'

Souls of Mischief (Most of the d00ds from Hiero) just released a new record on the first, co-produced by Prince Paul, so you know it can't suck. I haven't really heard any impressive hip hop lately. The 90's were the golden age of the medium IMO.
