Okay, I finally broke down and bought a new desktop. See it here
Now I need video help.
My current system has an Nvidia GTX550ti. It has a DVI output (which variety, I'm not quite sure) and a VGA output.
I have a 20" AOC monitor with a VGA input only. It connects to the card with a DVI-VGA adapter. The 2nd monitor is a crappy old Acer 19" 4:3 that connects to the VGA port on the card.
So what I want/need to do is make the AOC 20" my secondary monitor, toss the old Acer, and buy a new 24 or 27" monitor for my main display. I need help.
The Lenovo has a video card in it. AMD R9 255, so they say. It has 3 connectors:
DVI-I Dual Link
HDMI
Display Port
So here's what I think I can and want to do. Please tell me if it's possible and/or makes sense.
a} use my existing DVI-VGA adapter on the card's DVI-I port with my existing AOC 20" VGA monitor as a 2nd display, and
b} Buy a 24 or 27" monitor with a HDMI input, and the associated cable (HDMI-HDMI) for a main display, and
c} ignore the Display Port connector.
Am I on the right path? I love how smart my friends are!
